what else does BNG have to offer?

4 out of 10 minor theros gods have been spoiled so far. What other god do you expect to see in BNG? Also, what else would you like to see happen in this set? I personally want to see a really effective control piece for UWR and something to help Bant Midrange decks get back to where they were before rotation. A Farseek -like spell would be ideal here!

I doubt we'll see another Farseek effect. WOTC let Farseek and the check lands rotate out of Standard because they were too powerful with the shocks. Bringing them back would just hurt the format.

The last god to be spoiled for BNG is Phenax the U/B God.

By the looks of it, monoblack and mono blue devotion will have lots of tools at their disposal once Born of Gods comes out. I'm really hoping monogreen devotion gets some more love.

Epochalyptik is right, you won't see a Farseek style spell for the simple reason that MaRo and company have come out and said that mana this standard season was going to be good but nowhere near last rotation's. MaRo also said BNG is going to be the allied colored minor gods so the next one is going to be the UB Phenax as Snowstorm said. I'm with you on seeing UWR getting some better pieces, but having played the deck what the deck really needs is just more Ux scry lands to be better in the control mirror and make the mana more consistent.

PrimeSpeaky, we are getting those U scry lands now. I was hoping maybe we'd see a Farseek like effect that lets us grab a basic at least. The G/W god lets you search out shocks, so I was just blindly hoping there. What do you mean allied color?

There are 10 color combinations, 5 of which are referred to as "Ally" color combos. They're the same color combinations you'll find in the m10 check lands like Drowned Catacomb . They other 5 are called "Enemy" or "Archenemy" color combos and those are the check land combos from Innistrad like Sulfur Falls .

Sadly we're only getting one of those scry lands, the UW one. I really wish we had gotten the UR one, since that was really the one the deck needed to be honest. The deck is mostly UW with a touch of red to play a couple burn spells. Your mana costs run UU or WW but never RR. Its a start but I personally won't try it over esper till I have the more consistent mana.

I also wouldn't get my hopes up too much over a Rampant Growth , though I suppose its possible. I just don't see it being likely with all the devotion to mono color being a thing, the best I think we get is going to be Sylvan Caryatid . Though I could always be wrong.

I run RR in my UWR control. I have a mainboard Anger of the Gods , albeit that does only account for 1 instance of WW. However, against agro matches I do side in 2 additional Angers.

Right, I absolutely spaced anger. That being said, the UR scry would have done so much more for the deck than the UW at that case. It sets you up better to slam either Dissolve OR Anger of the Gods on t3

Where is Serum Visions ! I want my scry/draw spell

PrimeSpeaky says... #11

I'd love to see a Serum Visions reprint with some new flavor art. It probably wouldn't be in BNG though since we're seeing Springleaf Drum reprint already but maybe Journey into Nyx?

Bestach says... #12

Doesn't even have to be Serum Visions . Just a Scry/Cantrip card. I want to play control again, but the current control decks don't look fun, and with the choices for early card draw being Azorius Charm and Quicken I just don't see it happening.

I expect WoTC to make lands in m15 but wouldn't be surprised if they didn't since they are pushing mono colored

With the emergence of dual color gods, I don't know if I would say mono colored is being pushed. It would make more sense to say it is very strong right now, but I think we will most likely have some set of duals in m15 since it will mark the rotation of the current shocklands

Bestach, they won't print a one-drop Scry + Cantrip in Standard (IMO). They already had this (Preordain ), and it was banned because of being too broken.

Bestach says... #16

I know, but I can dream... And Serum Visions was my suggestion because its not quite as banned as Preordain

January 20, 2014 5:39 p.m.

PrimeSpeaky says... #17

As far as I know, Preordain was never banned in standard. And the reason it got the hammer in Modern was due to the consistency of Storm as a deck. That aside, Serum Visions is fine I think. It's not like we don't already have scry in the format with the Theros duals and company.

January 20, 2014 7:06 p.m.

Bestach says... #18

Yeah, but being banned in Modern means Wizards is unlikely to reprint it, whereas Serum Visions is not. Of course we might get nothing and control will cry...

PrimeSpeaky says... #19

Perhaps, though they DID give us a Ponder reprint while it still had a ban in modern, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
