Modern Metagame breakdown post-ban

This is probably one of the best breakdowns of the Modern metagame post-bannings in a while. Wescoe doesn't talk about some archetypes, but he does give us 29 (!) representative decklists of many archetypes to look at.

While I'm not advocating this as a definitive source (e.g. it doesn't list BW Tokens), it's still a worthwhile read to get a grasp of the most played decks.

Good read.

I don't think it needs to list Skred. Tokens is better than that.

It seems to me yhat tokens gets so much hate and no one plays it but my BW tokens build has been tearing my LGS up in a big way.

It's runs right over 8 Rack, Jund and Junk alike. It seems to have trouble with some of the twin decks if I don't hit Thoughtseize at the right time, though. POD gave me trouble, but not anymorem..hahaha! Never got to play UR Delver but I imagine that wouldn't be too bad since it lost its draw power and it's 1 for 1 removal doesn't really help against tokens.

Wescoe should have definitely talked about tokens.

Does it kinda look like he has weird googly eyes to anyone else in that picture? Like, crazy-eyes in Mr. Deeds almost?

As an 8 rack player I've never had issues with tokens. /shrug, a resolved bridge shuts off SO many decks. Especially in game 2 when I bring in Extirpate to take all of your artifact sideboard hate.

That being said, off to read the article.

I liked the article. Metas are different everywhere so it isn't 100% accurate but I thought that it was more comprehensive than many articles from that site

Why does his 8 rack deck have 24 lands?

ChiefBell I personally am not sure why any 8 rack deck would run more than 22 lands other than to make Raven's Crime a better card to retrace. I have seen 8 rack run as many as 25 swamps just for that at my LGS. Its uncommon, but it happens.

Either way, I think is a bad idea.

Greatly saddened by the lack of talk about tokens. Wescoe, you have disappointed me. Other than that, interesting read.

That Delver list is atrocious. Two Shocks in the mainboard? Really? That disgusts me. I feel like it's built too closely to how TC Delver was. Delver goes back to being counter spell heavy, not as burn heavy as Wescoe's list is.

Overall, though, it's a pretty good article. I think he broke down the numbers almost perfectly.

9/10 because awful Delver list, and not W/B Tokens.

I value his efforts but I think that a) the percentage meta representation values are just pulled out of his ass and b) some of his lists show a lack of knowledge about what the deck wants to do in that there are weird choices and peculiar amounts of certain cards.

It's really strange for Wescoe to not discuss tokens since that is all he plays in modern. I wonder what he'll be sleeving up at the pro tour? =0) The lack of discussion on b/w tokens and monastery mentor makes me believe it will be played at the pro tour.

Monastery Mentor is not good for b/w tokens.

xzzane - I think it'd be helpful to say why Monastery Mentor isn't good for BW Tokens.

Monastery Mentor is insane in b/w tokens. Everything in the deck triggers a token and prowess.

It might not be good in your build of tokens but it is ridiculous in tokens.

Sorry, I've explained it like 40 times since it was banned, and I'm just a little tired of doing it. For the same reason, I tire of explaining why Bitterblossom isn't good for b/w tokens. The turn 3 play for b/w tokens is incredibly important. And between Lingering Souls and Spectral Procession it's really hard to find a card that fits alongside those 2. Plus, mentor doesn't fit with the aggro style of b/w tokens. Consider this: If turn 3 you play mentor, and turn 4 you lay down an Elspeth, Knight-Errant, you only get a single token capable of attacking turn 5. Two if you count the one Elspeth can produce. Plus it can get removed incredibly easily, taking away one of the strengths that tokens has. Normally tokens doesn't care about things like Path to Exile or Lightning Bolt, and people don't want to waste one on a token. But they sure as hell will use one on a mentor. So often times you'll be wasting your third play. Mentor belongs in a control shell that can both protect and abuse him much better, not in an aggro styled deck like b/w tokens.

shocked439, read my earlier post. It doesn't matter the build, it just doesn't belong.

3 mana creatures with 2 toughness and no etb effect have no place in modern ever

xzzane - So what you're saying is that not every or card that makes tokens is good for a BW tokens deck? Scandalous.
