Any Chance?

So he's a terrible card outside of Commander and he's even terrible on his own (which is most likely his saving grace) but he's a monster and a pain when he gets on line so I was wondering if there's any chance Deadeye Navigator will ever see the business end of the banhammer?

Nope.

He's not hexproof and is easily dealt with.

No I don't think we will be seeing any bans for a while.

By himself he's useless. He can't flicker, he can't soul bond. He has no self protection. He is very easily responsed to either on cast or in response to the soul bond trigger.

People say if you ban him you can unban Primeval Titan and Sylvan Primordial because Navigator breaks them. Not at all. Those 2 cards are ridiculously powerful by themselves and drastically affect the game state, which is why they're banned and he's not.

As much as I have lost to this card plus his idiot friend Palinchron, you may as well ban something like Mind Over Matter as well. You know, cuz, combo pieces.

This gets asked like monthly. Well, maybe not directly - usually it comes up when talking about something else.

MirranTitan The reason I was curious is because of the ludicrous number of borderline broken combos this thing has, not because it combos with just a few so it's not your typical combo piece.

Intruder Alarm is also very broken and can go infinite in numerous different combos. It's never going to be banned though because it can be easily responded to and by itself it's rather underwhelming. Same with Deadeye Navigator.

People argue that Iona, Shield of Emeria should be banned for being to "broken" and "oppressive" and it "warps the game." There are still a very wide variety of ways to deal with Iona, even if playing a mono colored deck. In multi color decks it only slows you down. plus it costs 9 mana.

My point is, just because a card seems OP doesn't always make it ban worthy. (Prophet of Kruphix an unfortunate exception).

The biggest issue with Prophet of Kruphix was that it would just drag games out and provided a lot of advantage on one card.

As for Deadeye Navigator - he is easy enough to deal with, blah blah blah removal. Generally the place where he causes the most issue is in the very casual end of the commander spectrum, where you see a lot of decks that run little to no removal. And for those decks, he is effectively a death sentence as even though the person running him may not be directly trying to combo, if everybody esle is only running a small amount of removal he can be hard to deal with.

So generally the answer is "run more removal".

If you want to talk about banworthy cards - Cyclonic Rift and Tooth and Nail probably should be banned before Deadeye Navigator is.
