Commander Deck Help forum

Here's a link to the deck:

Wiccolo EDH Deck

I'm fairly new to the game, so I'm wondering if there are obvious problems with this deck such as having a bad curve, not having enough draw, having too many/too few creatures, counters, or board clears, etc.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The idea is to prolong the game long enough for emblems, Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur, flyers to the face, or commander damage via Aura-arbiter (Eldrazi Conscription / Steel of the Godhead fetching from Sovereigns of Lost Alara

Thanks!

Link for the lazy.

You can also use the 'Embed Code' button on the deck page so you get the right link. Just for future reference.

Alright so a few suggestions primarily on specific cards

As far as resolute archangel goes. It seems really underwhelming for this kind of deck. You are running a control deck. If your opponent is able to damage you that much before your win can happen..odds are they have the win. A much better creature ( in my humble opinion) that you are missing is none other than the great teferi. As long as you hav the budget for him. he is a must-include card in a control deck. Check him out!. Another creature you seem to need is Glen-elendra archmage. Incredibly good card to shut an opponent down for 4 mana. Your creatures are almost all high cmc so this could be a great addition for you. I'd also consider adding Grand Abolisher. He is a 2 drop creature with an insane effect and if your opponent is playing control...they will HAVE to answer it. Sometimes blue control decks can have a hard time dealing with what is already out so he can be devastating depending on the opponent's hand. I'd consider SUn titan though your CMC is not ideal for him. I'd remove draining whelk because the main time he shines is with bounce effects or animar. You have neither. There are just better cards for his slot. Secure the wastes seems out of place. it really isn't going with your deck's theme. I'd considering putting cancel in it's place or any other counter you prefer or a wrath of god for another board wipe or curse of swine. You are somewhat short on mass removal besides cyclonic rift....anyways I have more suggestions if you thought these were useful message me and I'd love to help. Just don't want to spend all day typing for nothing I'm sure you understand:)

I'm also relatively unexperienced in EDH, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. While spot removal and counterspells are great for dealing with specific spells, your commander will generate a little (or a lot) of hate. Running board wipes will be key to holding your own in multiplayer game. Apoligies if I missed them in the list. If you want to have a reason to bust out that evil cackle you're been working on, you can always add Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and Vryn Wingmare, although they hurt you just as much as anybody else. While we're on the subject of being evil, ever consider Magus of the Tabernacle or Magus of the Moat? These will tax your opponents, and while they generate hate, running some prison effects like Ghostly Prison, Propaganda, and cards like Winter Orb will slow them down. What I recommend is carrying a more fun oriented package and a separate, more competitive/"I've had a bad day, so I'm gonna vent now" oriented package. Use the above prison tax/prison cards in your competitive package, and keep your fun package in the deck. When you feel like switching up, simply replace the fun package with the competitive package. This method will allow you to play with both more casual and competitive/Spikey play groups. It works for a lot of people I know.

Future Sight is bonkers in GAAIV. You are also missing Venser, Clique and most of the good counterspells. Condescend, Force of Will, Disrupt, Mana Leak, Memory Lapse, Mental Misstep.

Could use Stoneforge Mystic (with adjascent toolbox), some of the good draws like Deep Analysis.

I didn't check out the manabase, but at a quick glance you have too many basics. There are a lot of utility lands and other dual/fethchable mana sources to get.

Just made a few updates to this. Any thoughts? Arbiter, you con-du-it

Added several extra-turn mechanics, non-basic lands, and big-bads (e.g. Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite / Avacyn, Angel of Hope).

"You are also missing Venser, Clique and most of the good counterspells. Condescend, Force of Will, Disrupt, Mana Leak, Memory Lapse, Mental Misstep"

I'm thinking I could use a few of the counterspells/creatures mentioned above, though this deck has been kind of shifting away from a hard counterspell deck as the wincons (Jin-Gitaxias, Omniscience, Voltron Aura-Arbiter) seemed more distant when I was sitting on a bunch of counterspells. That is, it wasn't really advancing my strategy, only hindering others and stagnating play.

Though I definitely think adding more counterspells in a low player count format is the way to go.
