Some Additions from Origins —July 8, 2015

Just realized that I actually can link to cards coming out in Origins, so a brief update on the ones I added:

  • Alhammarret's Archive: Let's just ramp the card draw mechanic even more, shall we? I'd be careful to only use this when I already have Venser's Journal, Reliquary Tower or Tamiyo, the Moon Sage's Emblem so I didn't end up having to discard a ton of cards. The first ability also combines well with Basilisk Collar and Venser's Journal. All in all, a really lovely card.

  • Sphinx's Tutelage: I almost feel bad about including this and Jace's Erasure since they almost turn this into a mill deck. Sphinx's Tutelage is especially nasty since it has the potential to mill out a significant portion of a person's deck with multiple proc's. If both this and Jace's Tutelage are on the battlefield at once my opponent is in for a fun time.

  • Willbreaker: I really love Dismiss into Dream and I love Willbreaker for the same reasons. Target an opponent's creature and gain control of it until Willbreaker goes away. If this hits the battlefield I'll have a hard time choosing who gets to wear Darksteel Plate. Willbreaker will get a lot of the same use that Vedalken Shackles does - ping a creature with something tiny (Chandra, Tamiyo, Teferi, etc.) then shoot them in the face with Nin to draw cards. Wipe out some of my enemy's cards while also helping myself. Great card.

There are also a couple artifacts that I really like for their general use but that may not find a place in the deck. These include Orbs of Warding, Prism Ring and Sword of the Animist. They're all brilliant cards, but I'm getting to the point where I can't cut much out of the deck without hurting the overall function.

Regardless, Origins is shaping up to be a brilliant set for EDH and I can't wait to take advantage of it.
