Old mono-black aggro decks used very powerful 3-drop creatures, cheated out on turn 1 by
Dark Ritual
, to beat down their opponents. Dark Ritual into
Hypnotic Specter
, for example, was a very powerful draw, especially when followed up by a turn 2
Hymn to Tourach
.
This casual (budget) deck seeks to emulate the success of those decks, using new cards from Core Set 2020 to push it over the edge.
Rotting Regisaur
is the star here: putting a 7/6 into play on turn one results in a turn 4 win if your opponent stumbles, and can quickly turn into
The Abyss
when your opponent needs to chump block. In addition to dark ritual,
Blood Pet
and
Peat Bog
allow us to cheat the regisaur on turn 2, for equally devastating results.
Rather than view Rotting Regisaur's text box as a downside, this deck aims to occasionally find upside from discarding your own cards.
Unearth
reanimates every creature into our deck, and enables turn one draws such as swamp->dark ritual->
Strongarm Tactics
, forcing our opponent to discard while binning a 3-drop creature to unearth.
Graveyard Marshal
is an aggressively-costed creature that can similarly find value out of a self-discard outlet.
The rest of the deck contains light removal or reach to push through the finishing blow.
Hypnotic Specter
is an evasive attacker that provides a card advantageous saboteur effect, while
Rite of Consumption
flings the Regisaur at our opponent for 7 points of damage, and gives the deck a turn-3 goldfish win. Aformentioned
Strongarm Tactics
can also occasionally deal 4 damage to an unlucky or hellbent opponent, and makes
Hymn to Tourach
and hypnotic specter that much more powerful.
