The main goal for the deck is to mill out the opponent by using Drowner of Secrets to tap all the merfolk being played and then have Intruder Alarm untap everything or have Merrow Commerce untap all merfolk at the end of your turn. Grimoire Thief adds a little extra milling with the added bonus of them not knowing what they are losing. Eldrazi Monument is to try and provide some protection against removal.
