A Reason for the Green —April 3, 2013

I've finally added cards to give this deck a real reason to have green in it (apparently splashing green for only one card didn't seem like a good idea to most of you that commented). I've added a Prime Speaker Zegana that I got in a pack just a bit ago. She actually pulls her weight when I get her. I've added two Collective Blessings. I had one that from a pack that I wasn't using so I scrounged up another just for the lolz of it. Finally I added a Quest for Renewal that was sitting around in my extra cards pile. It's kind of an alternate Merrow Commerce that works really well. Hope everyone still likes the deck and I'll continue to make changes as time goes by.

I like merfolk decks, especially when someone puts their own creative spin on it instead of just using 4 of each of the merfolk lords. +1 from me.

Summon the School not a 4 of, would you care to elaborate? Is the Lullmage Mentor pulling his weight? Do you have enough merfolk to use him? How do boardwipes effect your game?

Looks cool, +1

Three is good enough for Summon the School because I can reuse it continually (assuming no graveyard hate. But I play casual and don't run into it a lot). Lullmage Mentor does pull his weight. He is (relatively) one of the bigger creatures in here (that seems so funny if you haven't seen the deck work) and with all the creatures I can swarm the battlefield with, it basically let's me have free reign over what is going to get cast. Boardwipes are pretty brutal to this deck, but again, the amount of draw and creature makingness (I know it's not a word) let me bounce back fast. Over all it's a solid deck. Thanks for commenting and the +1!!

Have you thought of Merrow Commerce instead of To Arms! ? that might help you more.

Ummmm I have Merrow Commerce in there.......... To Arms! is there for surprise untapping, and for the card draw.

If you played Opposition instead of Glare of Subdual , then you wouldn't need to run green mana sources.

Also, +1 for the Beatles reference.

Good call, but I'm not planning on doing it for three reasons: 1. I already own the deck and I don't feel like hunting down more cards to change it, 2. I don't like the older cards purely for their looks, and 3. The mana base how it is is actually much more consistent when I have to try to get green then otherwise.

I would put a Talrand sky summoner to make it fun

Talrand, Sky Summoner is awesome, but he doesn't really fit with the tapping theme of this deck and I don't really have that many instant or sorcery spells (though I can reuse Summon the School ). It's a good thought, maybe in the future I'll try him out.

Try Opposition its U add Intruder Alarm for infinite combo with Stonybrook Schoolmaster

Thanks for the tip. I don't like to use older cards like Opposition (call me fickle for liking the art of the not so old cards plus it would take me buying more cards to have them). Also I've given up using infinite combos after having used them forever and knowing how truly broken they are (I still have to admit that they are fun and funny).

Yeah none of those because those are the cop-out typical Merfolk cards...... This deck is built to be unique and isn't intended to be a "turn em sideways" deck. Plus those cards don't help out at all with the actually idea of the deck (tapping and untapping things).

March 27, 2013 12:30 p.m.

Then find a card that allows for vigilance with tapping creatures after attacking, like Serra's Blessing

It's called Merrow Commerce .

And casting Merrow Commerce triggers Merrow Reejerey . Merfolk tribals for the win!
