Moving away from the toolbox, and towards the futu —Feb. 1, 2021

Main: -1 Blood Artist, -2 Eldritch Evolution, +3 Gemrazer

Side: -3 Gemrazer, -1 Phyrexian Revoker, -2 Nihil Spellbomb, +2 Soul-Guide Lantern, +2 Force of Vigor, +2 Veil of Summer

After a lot of deliberation, I finally decided to try Gemrazer in the main, cutting the light tool box and a majority of the one-ofs entirely. In the main, this allowed the deck to get more threat dense and aggressive while still keeping a density of non-creature removal. This change also effected the sideboard in a significant way too. With gemrazer in the main and the toolbox creatures out of the 75, it is now possible to fit more sideboard cards for important matchups.

Something to note is that gemrazer doesn't have to have a target artifact or enchantment to destroy in order to be good. Under a lot if situations, its just a 3 mana 5/5 with trample and reach.

This however does come with a cost. The deck has lost a lot of ability to combo off, and it loses the toolbox element it once had. All this said, it took a lot of thought to decide the toolbox wasn't needed, and I don't think I will be going back to using it any time soon.

Another effect of this change might be the further distancing of this deck from yawgmoth combo. I think this should make it easier to see the differences between the deck, with Undying Retribution trying to be fast and efficient, while the toolbox combo deck is, well, trying to be a toolbox deck with a combo. That being said, this was a change made because of the difference between these two decks, not so much to show them.

Really great idea! I would definitely recommend Plagued Rusalka as a great Sac Outlet. Or Demonlord of Ashmouth as both Sac Outlet and Undying creat

Maybe you will like Gleancrawler too or Quest for the Gravelord which will release the token quick

Also I'd put Tragic Slip in place of Fatal Push

Hey, thanks for the comment.

Unfortunately these options are either too expencive (Gleancrawler), too inefficient (Plagued Rusalka costing 1 black mana to sacrifice something), or too conditional (Tragic Slip). The lost is pretty tight, and in my opinion what this deck could use the most is additional cards that function like Carrion Feeder by being a free sac outlet that gets +1/+1 counters, or another good undying creature at converted mana cost 2 or less.

Just as a note, I will not be using tappedout anymore. If you want to see more on the deck, check out my subreddit, r/UndyingRetributionMTG, where I will be more active and putting out new information on the deck.
