This is a more casual Azorius-themed deck designed to play against my wife and friends who have more casual, less synergistic decks. As my son has learned more how to play Magic, the deck turned out to be too weak and is slowly evolving into a pseudoPauper deck.
The original build was a take on the “Gatherer Terrible" format, where the only cards that could be used must have a rating of 2 out of 5 or less on Gatherer. I eventually upped this to any card under 3 out of 5 in rating, but I also have the requirement that the deck be larger, 72 cards in total, and that the deck cannot have more than 2 copies of any nonland cards. I also simply bought an equal number of Plains and Islands rather than color-balancing it for the deck's needs. The most recent change to include more commons that are rated higher than 3 out of 5 is due to the limited numbers of draw, mana cards, and large creatures that fit the restrictions before. When the decks were first built, I theorized that would have been fine for the games I had built them for, but they’re not cutting it against my son’s sealed-like decks that we build on the fly out of his growing collection. This has also allowed me to include more cards that have flash which will go well with the few counterspells in here.
