Terror of Towashi

Creature — Phyrexian Ogre

Deathtouch

Whenever Terror of Towashi attacks, you may pay . When you do, return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield. It's a Phyrexian in addition to its other types.

Some thoughts, keeping in mind your budget:

  • I would swap both Cut Down and Murderous Rider for Bone Shards. Rider is too slow, and Cut has too-few options for targets. Bone Shards deals with almost any threat, while letting you discard a reanimation piece into the graveyard.

  • I would suggest running the full playsets (4-ofs) both Faithful Mending and Tainted Indulgence. To make room for those five cards i’d suggest ditching Gifts Ungiven, Lively Dirge, (both too slow), and a single land.

  • I think your land count can go down to 23. In addition to the land removed above, i’d suggest getting rid of another, as well as the Terror of Towashi, to run 2x Unmarked Grave and a single copy of Unburial Rites. The Unmarked Grave can put anything into your graveyard for just 2 mana, which could include the Rites to flashback, if you already have a creature target.

I can definitely see where you're coming from with the boardwipe into recursion game plan. Ideally, around what turn would you want to start recurring things?

Terror of Towashi is kinda mana-intensive for what you're likely getting out of it. A total of 4 mana to cast, wait a turn with out Haste, then pay 8 mana to recur 2 creatures to field, with its effect doubled by Isshin.

If you go the recursion route, I'd recommend more mana efficient options like Reanimate, Animate Dead, Dance of the Dead, & Necromancy, but all are relatively expensive. There are other options like Enduring Scalelord & Sun Titan, but recursion can be varying kinda slow, depending on the options used.

I highly recommend the token swarming route with Isshin. That's the variant I've been playing for about a year now. I play it in a fairly aggro-leaning meta to some decent success. I think creature token production paired with ETB Damage like Impact Tremors & other group slug effects like Hellrider can deal some gnarly damage.

In my time playing Isshin, I've found more success with board protection effects like Flawless Maneuver & Unbreakable Formation. It saves you some steps involved with various recursion effects, & keeps your board as intact as possible to keep swinging without letting up that momentum.
