Wooded Foothills usage?

Asked by MrTrainee 4 years ago

Hi, I'm new to MTG and i was wondering about this card Wooded Foothills . It's already a land, right? So I'm assuming it can be tapped for mana as either mountain or forest cards according to your card needs. So why would u want to sacrifice it and lose a life to get another land instead. You lose a land and gain a land and it's just single color now...

Wooded Foothills actually does not tap for mana. It doesn't have a basic land type ( Plains , Island , Swamp , Mountain , or Forest ) listed in its type line, and it doesn't have an ability along the lines of ": Add ." Because of that, it only has the function of finding lands from your deck.

Additionally, it can find any land with Mountain or Forest in the type line, including Stomping Ground , Dryad Arbor , Murmuring Bosk , or Smoldering Marsh , among others. You're not restricted to digging up a basic land.

To clarify my abova answer a little (apologies for double posting), when the wording is formatted as "Search your library for a (whatever) card", you can find any card that has (whatever) in the type line. Compare to Terramorphic Expanse , which reads "Search your library for a basic land card" and Jund Panorama , which reads "Search your library for a basic Swamp, Mountain, or Forest card".
