sideboarding against merfolk?

So I was playing in a tournament today and was doing really well...until I saw merfolk. I playb/w tokens, and it's just a really bad matchup. Any advice?

Maybe by forcing them to discard Spreading Seas and Lords that give Islandwalk like Master of the Pearl Trident .

Yeah GoldGhost012, sure that sounds like a great idea to make them discard cards that they run 4 of and will easily draw into more of!

Sorry, I'm a horrible bitter person, please forgive me.
It's way easier and more versatile to just kill the lord and ignore spreading seas.

Do you have any possible suggestions on what to sideboard in? Meant to ask that in the original part.

Play Mana Tithe , Sunlance , or Dash Hopes . It confuses the shit out of them. Run the blue sword. Play Ethersworn Canonist or just splash green and run Choke . The last one gets them every time. Hahaha.

Don't run BW tokens would be my advice. If you can't do that, I'd run Slaughter Pact .

NotSoLuckyLydia, my token deck consistently wins me the majority of my matches in a very competitive FNM atmosphere. Not sure what you have against tokens. Slaughter Pact is a maybe. I'll consider it.

Doom Blade ? None of the fishes are black so you can kill them for 2 mna?

I just don't like the deck. I think the unfair stuff in modern is better than the fair stuff. But Slaughter Pact is really powerful. I actually would argue it's worthy of a 1 or 2 of spot in the main, if you're running something like Doom Blade already.

Well the deck runs great. I recently just beat Alex han, one of the top players in my state with my token deck. He was playing splinter twin. Is that considered an unfair thing in modern? Bw tokens are fully capable of taking on many tier 1 decks. And Doom Blade doesn't have a place in the mainboard. But I will put some thought into side boarding a Slaughter Pact .

Slaughter Pact or any removal ever made is good to side in. I like gnarlicide's idea though.

Mana Tithe , Sunlance , and Dash Hopes @gnarlicide.

Dash Hopes and Mana Tithe are very interesting to say the least. Not sure if they have a place in the sideboard though. And I personally prefer Slaughter Pact over Sunlance .

Dash Hopes and Mana Tithe are also both completely horrid against merfolk. You want to load up on Path to Exile . Merfolk is week to spot removal. if you path their lords they're left with a bunch of terrible creatures that aren't doing much. They also don't really get much out of fetching a basic land.

I already run 4 paths mainboarded, so that's a plus at least.

Disenchant could be good. In my experience the times the fish folk gets to play a vial on t1-2 is the times they run you over. If they are vial-less they have to play a normal game and pay mana for their dudes and it slows them down a lot. So Disenchant and some spot removal MB Path to Exile and some SB Slaughter Pact is my best recommendation.

Don't do it because I play fishies ;)
But really it's not a big part of the meta and unless you find something that's good against other things too it's not worth it. Generally removal in large amounts kills me.
