How good is Gaddock Teeg in Modern?

I am currently working on a HateBears deck for modern and was wondering is Gaddock Teeg should be included or if he wouldn't really be that useful. I don't currently have him in and think that he would just be a SB card if I do decide to include him, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask around first.

So what is your experience with Gaddock Teeg in modern? Has he worked for you if you played with/against him? Or, if not, why?

I was thinking about this, but I'm not really too sure. Both Splinter Twin and Birthing Pod are cmc 4. So is Damnation .

That's what I was thinking too. I was trying to think of any Tier 1 decks that he would mess up but I had a major mind block haha. Thanks for the feedback, I may end up adding in 1 or 2 in the side board.

I ended up going selesnya aggro instead of hatebears so I left him out. If I were playing hatebears I would like to run him because I do think that he screws up both of the combo decks that run rampant unless they immediately counter him.

Teeg's fine. Pretty fragile though.

Just curious, what is hatebears?

Magiclover318 Hatebears is the affectionate name for a particularly disruptive aggro deck. It plays a bunch of 2 power creatures that mess with the game in various ways, like Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and Aven Mindcensor . The goal is to keep your opponent off their gameplan just long enough to beat them down.

OP: Gaddock Teeg is fine. I think the best way to think about him is as a speed bump more than a gotcha. Certain decks like RG Tron, Scapeshift , Amulet of Vigor combo, etc must absolutely deal with him before they can keep going. So even when they do, and often, have the removal, it slows them off their ideal curve.

So do you guys think Gaddock Teeg should be mainboard or sideboard?

Um I think I would run him as a two of in the mainboard. Wrecks Cryptic Command and most boardwipes,

If you're already playing hatebears I see no reason to not run him, given that he ruins a lot of opponents' plans.

Gaddock Teeg is ridiculous right now, except for against Affinity and Zoo.

He stops your opponent from playing Splinter Twin , Birthing Pod , Cryptic Command , Scapeshift , Chord of Calling , Karn Liberated , etc.

Pod. Twin and Cryptic are arguably the three most important cards in the format, and against Scapeshift you actually just win (if you can protect him). I would play 2 or 3 main because he is amazing right now. The same goes for Qasali Pridemage , which you should also be playing 2 or 3 of. Good luck!

If you're playing the GW Wilt-Leaf Liege midrange deck, Gaddock Teeg seems SUPER sweet. Especially against RUG Scapeshift and UR Twin. It makes it unboltable, can't be bounced by Cryptic Command , and neither one can cast its instant win. I could see it being an easy 3 of main, potentially with a fourth in the side, as it has so much splash damage to many powerful decks.

Combined with the other powerful cards in the GW Midrange build, he could wreck some serious face.

(I apologize for double post, I'm sleepy and skipping half the post, particularly the important part.)

In Hatebears, rather than being a brutal lockdown type card, Gaddock Teeg plays the part of "Find a bolt or lose." I like him more as a 2 of in that list, complimented by 2-3 Qasali Pridemage , Thalia, Guardian of Thraben , and other pseudo-lock pieces.

id love to include gaddok teeg into my bant list, but hed need a way to increase the cost of opponents instant/sorceries by 2 all while decreasing my cost by 1 colorless.

otherwise gaddok seems meh.too much good removal in the format.

and i did check, there are plenty of cards that can increase and decrease the cost of your stuff, but none has a playable mana cost, nor are they on a creature body or none can do all 3,being on a creature, reduce cost of my spells by 1 while increasing cost of their spells by 2. these prerequisite would help gaddok teeg make modern a better less combo or control dominated format. and i think bant would have a better chance all around.
