Best "Robots" Archetype?

Modern forum

My intent is to facilitate a conversation between Modern "Robots" or Affinity players.

The question: Which build to Robots is best?

I ask this question because I have seen many builds for this deck, some that use Etched Champion , some that use Arcbound Ravager , some that use Master of Etherium , and some that use a combination of two, or all three.

I wish to know the reasons why people choose one over the other, or why the decide to use a combination.

In my experience with the "Robots" build, I used to use a playset of Etched Champion and a few Arcbound Ravager s but I was beginning to lean more towards the Master of Etherium as an option. I don't use the decklist anymore, but I'm still curious to see people's opinions.

Drop a link to your deck or leave a comment on this thread with your reasoning as to which ones you use in your Robots deck.

I run Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto and I use Arcbound Ravager and Etched Champion . They interact so well with each other. You can sac all of a bunch of artifacts that are going to die to Arcbound Ravager and put the counters on Etched Champion for a huge, untouchable, creature.

I also run Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas due to his ability to close out the game, not as good as he is in Legacy but still broken.

Hey Ohthenoises thanks for the response. I was really hoping more people would join in on the conversation.. but it happens I guess. :/

Thanks for your input anyways, I can see how that build can be very beneficial. What's your views on Shrapnel Blast ?

It's a thing. Granted, it's good but there's really not much space for it and I don't like to sac things unless I have to (like if they play Pyroclasm )

What about to rid yourself of a tapped Mox Opal in order to place down another? Or would you rather go the way of sac'ing it to your Arcbound Ravager ?

As far as "robot" themed Modern decks go I have a particular affinity for myr creatures (I even have a deck named We're Here! We're Myr! based around it). I don't play competitively but really love artifact creatures in general and I may have a few suggestions.

First Steel Overseer . It combos with Arcbound Ravager and if you're going to dedicate yourself to artifact creatures then you owe it to yourself to have at least a couple copies of Steel Overseer in your deck. If you're serious about controlling the battlefield Silent Arbiter is an excellent choice too. If you're going to rely sacrificing artifacts for Arcbound Ravager and Shrapnel Blast then Darksteel Relic could make for a suitable addition or you could use Solemn Simulacrum for land acquisition and you can sacrifice it for a draw.

My build is a little more mainstream Dem Artifacts I used to have Master of Etherium but I found Arcbound Ravager to be more useful. I'm experimenting with Galvanic Blast vs Thoughtcast right now. If you go with Shrapnel Blast and Arcbound Ravager then Darksteel Relic is a good 0 drop for sacking.

I have a REALLY fun, REALLY cheap modern robots deck that, after turn 5, the game is just lulz. It works really well for me, and it practically dominates 1v1 against non-T2 decks, and it's only drawback in multiplayer is it gets a lot of hate fast because people are terrified of the combos.

Behold the Flying Robot Army!

Just to add, Master of Etherium is very powerful in legacy were we have access to artifact lands. But in modern we have a far less useful land base. So an Arcbound Ravager that transfers its counters to an Etched Champion with an Ornithopter equipped with Cranial Plating is far more useful. At least thats my opinion :)
