Will snapcater's price become too much?

With Havengul Lich being released now, will Snapcaster Mage become more of a staple than it ever has been before? Because now you can use snapcster-mage pretty much whenever you need as long as it is in your graveyard.
true, but if you have Spellskite out for a layer of protection, do you feel that it may be of more use then? or would it still be to ineffective?

Spellskite is one of the cards that will probably rise in price. But in the control decks right now, they don't really want to 5 mana dude, that if they don't draw their Snapcaster mage , it's a vanilla 4/4. Control decks are not running that many creatures, i.e. maybe 5 total. Maybe in some Heartless Summoning deck it could work. But if you are having that you probably won't have much room for non cantrip spells.

Ali Aintrazi is running a UB Havengul Lich + Heartless Summoning Control list at the SCG Open right now.

Yeah, it was fun watching him mostly durdle and lose.

It depends on what you call "too much." I can't see it getting much higher than it is now; 30 is a pretty fair price for how hard they are to find and how good they are. Then again, I have spent money on dual lands... My opinion is just that - an opinion.

I can see the snapcaster going up, but it's pricetag is pretty effective right now. Havengul Lich is going to be a standard staple sorry but it is. It's U/B so it fits perfectly in most solar flare decks and you'll need dismember or gftt as doom blade won't work on it. I think most people are still looking for how they want to use him, but I see snapcaster and havengul lich leading the charge.

I just don't want to see another caw blade effect with snapcatser, like I highly doubt it will warp the format too much but people pull off the craziest decks.

actually since you mention it, I have a "caw-blade"ish deck that uses snapcaster. I haven't been able to play at an FNM since the local places just do draft, but the matches I have played it in I typically don't lose with it.
I understand the desire not to see a deck like cawblade again though. I mean stoneforge with jace were just mean together... Well Jace is just mean in general and stoneforge had a mean streak in her and ended up running with the wrong crowd.
I think Solar flare has the most potential for getting to that point though. You've got Snapcaster Mage , Havengul Lich , Sun Titan , Phantasmal Image . Throw in a sword or two in and now everything in your graveyard can come back onto the field and keep firm control of the game.
Another idea would be undying blade. You'll always have a blade carrier. Only problem is there are way too many artifact hate cards so running any type of artifact is going to be difficult.
February 4, 2012 6:08 p.m.
true, but the answer to artifact hate would be Surgical Extraction imo. and if it is in the form of Ancient Grudge then all you need is Mental Misstep combo and get rid of it asap. And while i like the power caw blade had, i just hated not being able to use many other decks, i started doing FNM during its reign and didn't even know what it was

Mental Misstep doesn't counter Ancient Grudge .
Solar Flare as an Esper deck is probably not gonna be played in the DKA-meta. Havengul Lich is probably gonna be played in a Grixis or UB list moresoe than an Esper list.

Curious why not as an Esper? You lose out on Sun titan that way and o-ring. I definitely agree that havengul will find its way into both of those lists as well, but I still like Esper.

my bad, thinking of Crush . And i plan on playing ester colors during the DKA meta but its all a testing ground as too which deck build will be best

@EleshBlade: I bet your face is pretty red after seeing the Top 8 for SCG Richmond.
February 4, 2012 9:59 p.m.
Esper doesn't really have any aggressive creatures for control. Geist of Saint Traft , Mirran Crusader , etc are not control cards.
Grixis does in the form of Olivia Voldaren . Grixis also allows access to the Priest of Urabrask + Heartless Summoning combo.
February 4, 2012 10:33 p.m.
I don't know, i feel like if you can get the right cards, esper has a LOT of potential. Geist of Saint Traft is just an early bomb, same with Mirran Crusader . to me, they are just distractions from the bigger picture.
February 4, 2012 10:44 p.m.
@Spoofed: So you want a creature that's both Control and Aggro?

Well I added a Havengul lich to my solar flare deck along with Thought Scour and just saw a HUGE improvement in the deck and that was just 1 lich, I'm planning to add 3. Played against my heavy control deck. Sure geist and mirran crusader may not be the best choices, but again Sun titan, o ring DoJ, flashback for unburial rites all require white it just seems to me that a card like the lich fits so perfectly in the deck.
I would agree that grixis will be good as well and will use the lich, but I don't see why lich won't fit well into an esper solar flare.

@Zandi Ali Aintrazi did not run any Snapcaster Mage s in his decklist. But I did write off Havengul Lich so I stand corrected.

Snapcaster Mage
will prob keep it's value at 30bux. Havengul Lich
, probably won't see any constructed play, because it is too slow and will always get removed. I'd rather run a titan that has immediate value, before it gets removed. So probably not.
