Best Golgari cards vs. Matchups

Deck Help forum

I'm going to try to build a Golgari (G/B) deck that can take on any deck, but perhaps provide cards with the most value vs. specific matchups, and I'm looking for your thoughts.

For example, I'll definitely include a few Mistcutter Hydra , Abrupt Decay and Golgari Charm because of their strength against the popular UWx and Mono-blue decks.

Also, Sylvan Caryatid , Polukranos, World Eater , and Bile Blight because of what they do to aggro (Rx) decks.

What are some other high-value matchup-based cards in the realm of Black and Green? Specifically against Mono-black, Gruul Monsters, Esper Midrange, Naya, and Jund?

Ultimate Price is good vs MBD, MUD, and G/R/X monsters. Doom Blade is also good, but more for MUD and G/R/X. Underworld Connections provides additional cards to handle MBD and U/W/X control decks. Thoughtseize /Duress are great against MBD and U/W/X control. Devour Flesh works really well against cards like Blood Baron of Vizkopa and Naya Hexproof decks. Scavenging Ooze is good against aggro and burn decks, especially if you run a lot of removal. I actually like Deathrite Shaman against the aggro matchup, but a lot of people disagree with me on this. Lotleth Troll is great as he can be an easy 5/4 and tough to remove. Reaper of the Wilds is also problematic to opponents once the hex proof mana is open. The scry helps smooth out draws, and against opponent board wipes gives you a fighting chance with all the scrying.

Yeah, I usually run a couple Ultimate Price in the Main since it's good against any color, whereas Doom Blade is kept in the Side because it's only good against 4/5 colors... Underworld Connections is pretty solid card draw over a long haul, but needs some source of lifegain to offset the bleed (which is why I typically run Scavenging Ooze ), but I never run more than two unless I'm leaning towards black devotion. I would just rather have extra removal for board control... There aren't any Naya or Hexproof decks I've faced yet in my meta, but I'm working on one of the latter for myself. Blood Baron of Vizkopa has cost me a Top 8, so I won't be without some Devour Flesh in the sideboard... I love Lotleth Troll because of his sheer resilience, but he does cost me cards, and without sufficient draw, he's more of a burden, and I hate pumping him at a cost, then watching him vanish to something like Selesnya Charm ... I love Reaper of the Wilds Scry ability, I swear it wins me games. She's probably my favorite creature in Standard right now because of ALL the many different values she brings.

I don't know what Pharika, God of Affliction will bring, but I'm pretty sure Reaper will have a place comfortably beside her.
