Simic planeswalker
Custom Cards forum

Just something I created while sitting in my backyard staring at a chicken.
(Has no name yet.)
cost: GU2
+1: Put a 1/1 green and blue insect creature token unto the battlefield, it has flying
-?: put 4 +1/+1 counters on target creature, it gains flying an and trample until end of turn.
-?: for each creature you control with a +1/+1 counter on it, put a creature token onto the battlefield thats a copy of that creature.
Starting loyalty: 2
Suggestions would be appreciated, and any other planeswalkers you have been thinking about.
Kiora Atua 3UG
Planeswalker-Kiora
+1: Search your library for a green or blue creature and reveal it. If you do, shuffle your library and put that card on top of it.
-X: Add X amount of mana in any combination of U or G to your mana pool. If this mana is used to cast a creature spell, that creature enters the battlefield with Y +1/+1 counters, where Y is the amount of mana from ~ to cast this spell.
-11: You may cast any number of creatures from your hand without paying their mana cost.

Not quite sure about the wording on the second ability, also don't know about the ultimate's cost in comparison with the starting loyalty
Edit: Starting Loyalty : 4

As for my ideas for a G/U Planeswalker: here's a go:
KIora Atua, Master of the Seas
UUGG
Starting Loyalty: 3
+2: Whenever you tap a land for mana this turn, add an additional mana of the same color to your mana pool.
-3: Search your library for a creature with flying, trample, or hexproof and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.
-10: Distribute X +1/+1 counters among creatures you control where X is the number of cards in your hand added to the number of creatures you control.

Reworded and thoughts:
Starting loyalty, 2? too low. 2 is in the realm of Nissa Revane and Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded , both of which are awful. If you want the walker to have a decent chance of living mor ethan one turn.
+1: Put a 1/1 green and blue insect creature token with flying into play.
THis ability is alright, very similar to Sorin, Lord of Innistrad 's +1 so its alright but not unique or great.
-2 (i think 2 is balanced if you up starting loyalty, or not) Target creature gains flying and trample until end of turn. Put four +1/+1 counters on that creature.
Kinda like a cross between the minus abilities on Ajani, Caller of the Pride and Ajani Goldmane again, useful but not unique
-6 (with a +1 only and an ability this weak you won't want it much higher) For each creature you control with a +1/+1 counter on it, put a token onto the battlefield that is a copy of that creature.
weaker Doubling Chant not worth too much. I guess it's an ok ability. A rewording which would make it much better would be to say each creature was copied for each +1/+1 counter on it.

Continuing off of cartwheelnurd, I feel the -2 should EITHER be: Put a +1/+1 counter on up to 4 target creatures, and those creatures gains flying and trample until end of turn; OR Put 4 +1/+1 counters on target creature, and that creature gains trample until end of turn.
Giving a creature +4/+4 permanently AND two kinds of damage evasion (flying and trample) seems a bit too much for a -2. I feel like either spread a few +1/+1 counters and grant both evasion types, or load up one BigAMF like a creature-battering-ram, and ram it face first into your opponent.
And I like the idea for cartwheelnurd's -6, though I think it should be -7 with a MAY clause (in case you have legendaries with +1/+1 counters) So something like this:

*= "Xindlepete Customs" makes no claim to owning the moniker "Kiora Atua", and these custom mock-ups are not intended for sale/use outside of a private setting. This is simply my take on a card design for a planeswalker character within the MTG Universe.
Just makin' that clear, y'know, in case that causes a problem somehow. :)

Ehn... the insect and +1/+1 counter planeswalker is mostly fine except for the -2 seeming a big overpowered with granting the buff and abilities. But I always though of Kiora as being about card draw and big creatures, not tokens and counters.

@SpammyV: I agree, Kiora would be better suited to creature tutoring and things related to creature play. But for this particular thread, we are trying to help epicsnailman to balance and create his planeswalker pitch from the description. :) And the -2 is, as cartwheelnurd mentioned, similar in spirit to Ajani Goldmane , though it is a -2 instead of a -1, limits the number of creatures receiving the counters instead of giving all creatures counters, and adds "effects" from the Green and Blue color pies (trample and flying, respectively), instead of the White color pie (vigilance, in Ajani's case). Trample AND flying is a rather large bonus, so I felt limiting the number of creatures receiving the counters should help balance it.
Instead of disregarding epicsnailman's idea because you don't agree, why not start your own thread asking for people's opinions on abilities YOU feel Kiora should have? If you do, I'm there!

+2 Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control this turn, put a +1/+1 counter on it.
-X Add Y mana of any combination of G and U where Y is half of X, rounded down. Put an X/X green Ooze creature token onto the battlefield.
-7 You get an emblem with: blue creatures with +1/+1 counters that you control gain hexproof. Green creatures with +1/+1 countersyou control that you control are indestructible.
2 loyalty.

@KingSorin: Not bad. I do like the idea you've got going with it. Though there are two big changes I would make:
The -X is a bit confusing, and it grants you bonus mana AND a creature token at no cost. I think this ability would perform better as an actual tutor effect. Perhaps "-X: Search your library for a creature card with converted mana cost X. Reveal that card and put it into your hand, then shuffle your library". If you are particularly attached to the bonus mana effect, try something similar to Koth of the Hammer 's -2. Maybe "-3: Add X mana in any combination of Green or Blue to your mana pool, where X is the number of lands you control." These effects are much easier to understand, and not at all ridiculously overpowered.
I like how you started with the "ultimate", but it took a bit of a turn at the end there. Granting blue creatures "hexproof" makes sense, because "hexproof" as an effect is most prevalent in blue. However, green also has it's fair share of "hexproof" (Ranger's Guile , Alpha Authority , Primal Huntbeast to name a few in standard). "Indestructible" is much more potent than "hexproof", so this emblem greatly favors green over blue, throwing of the purpose of balancing power between colors. And "indestructible" tends to fall under white cards or artifacts most commonly (Avacyn, Angel of Hope , Angelic Overseer , Rootborn Defenses to name a few in standard).
I would recommend making your version of Kiora here be an alternate Domri Rade : an emblem that grants all creatures you control effects based on G/U. Doublestrike and haste are attributed to Red, so let's look at two effects that fit in U that green doesn't have: Flying is a common one, and so is unblockable. I would recommend flying here since trample and unblockable is pointless; plus turning all your creatures into Invisible Stalker would be a bit too powerful. So flying, trample, hexproof, and blank. Other common abilities found in blue currently are flash and evolve. While I feel that either of those would be good options, I think for flavor's sake you could go with evolve. This would allow you to grow all your creatures in the mid and late game, while giving them evasion and protection. That is fairly well-rounded, fits the color pie abilities, and isn't too outside the wheelhouse. So let's take a look at how this could be:
May 20, 2013 6:08 a.m.
Yeah, i thought it'd be a bit similar to domri if i tried it that way, so i wanted to change it. I thought that having hexproof indestructible stuff would be a deadly combination, and if i added unblockable to blue's side it'd just be dumb. I also made it a -7 so it was hard to pull off, so it had a large reward. I agree the -X is confusing, but i find something like a tutor like ol' tezzeret is a bit boring, and i didn't know any way to word it well. The evolve on the emblem is a nice touch though.
May 20, 2013 7:15 a.m.
I like it, but it sounds a bit like Zameck Guildmage , and the 1st effect would make naya landfall become 4-colour landfall, since that's so abusable. It's a cool p/w though. I like it.

WOW, my internets been down a few days, and I come back to check on what people thought and BAM! so many different planeswalkers! Thank you all for your ideas, but one thing... who is "Kiora Auta"? I have heard about her, but where is she from?

TheOne4221 says... #19
Kiora is a planeswalker featured first in Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012. She supposedly specializes in leviathan creatures and making stuff bigger.
Since people have learned about her, there has been a flux of requests for a G/U planeswalker.

+1: Put a 1/1 blue and green Fish creature token onto the battlefield.
-3: Put a 3/3 blue and green Fish Beast creature token onto the battlefield, then draw a card for each creature you control.
-9: You get an emblem with "Islands and Forests you control have: "T: Put a 66 blue and green Fish Beast Leviathan creature token with trample onto the battlefield. Draw a card.""
Starting loyalty: 5
How very simic of her!

@Krayhaft: I like it! :D "Depthcaller" too, great PW "title" to give her! The one thing I would change though is the ultimate. Perhaps something like:
-9: You get an emblem with "Islands you control have: T: Draw a card. Forests you control have: T: Put a 6/6 U/G Fish Beast Leviathan with trample into play."
Mostly because allowing all your lands to tap without paying mana into an ability that generates tokens AND draws cards might be a bit much. Splitting it up by basic land type makes it something a little more centric to the deckbuilding process. Otherwise, very neat idea! :D
May 22, 2013 3:20 p.m.
I like that ulti too, the only concern I had was that it would fill up the card text too much. I'd show you the mock-up I did in MSE, but I'm not sure how to embed images.
Is there a way to embed images that are in a folder on your computer, or do you have to upload them first?
May 22, 2013 8:17 p.m.
Xindlepete says... #24
You have to upload it to a file sharing site like imgur or photobucket. Personally I use photobucket. Here's a quick mock-up of the one you made, but the wording on the ultimate is how I recommended it. I did make one addendum, however: I dropped "Fish Beast" from the token's creature type, and made it just a "leviathan". But it saved a significant amount of space. Here you go:

May 23, 2013 1:05 a.m.
Very nice. But, the whole point of the 'fish beast leviathan' token was to show a progression.
+1 makes a fish
-3 makes a fish beast
-9 makes a fish beast leviathan
It's more wordier but I think it's cooler to show that.

+1: Put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control.
-2: Remove two +1/+1 counters from a creature you control. Draw that many cards.
-8: For each counter on permanents you control, add another of those counters to that permanent.
Starting Loyalty: 4

Xindlepete says... #27
@Krayhaft: I realize what you were doing, but putting in "fish beast" adds almost a whole extra line of text. Since the definition of "leviathan" is "a huge marine animal, such as a large fish or whale". Since a leviathan IS a fish-beast, it was redundant as a statement and took up more room than needed. It was a neat idea for the flavor, but one pro vs two cons on a short phrase that doesn't actually change the function... it's the easiest thing to cut. Sorry. But your initial card function is all there, the only change was my recommendation about dividing Islands and Forests on the emblem, and cutting "fish beast" from the text.
May 23, 2013 6:53 p.m.
Sorry, I really feel that the 'fish beast leviathan' clause has to be there, to show that progression in her abilities.
It's really not much more text, especially when you consider that Tamiyo, the Moon Sage also has four lines in her ulti text.
May 23, 2013 7:21 p.m.
@sholomo, the ulty is a weakened proliferate. That is far too weak. Tezzeret's Gambit trumps it. It needs to maybe do it 4 times to be adequate.
May 24, 2013 1:51 a.m.
@ KingSorin, actually, it's not like a proliferate at all. The way sholomo's ulti is worded, it will double all counters on all permanents you control (see Vorel of the Hull Clade ).
May 24, 2013 10:47 a.m.
Okay. So it'd also help Kiora get back a bit of loyalty if she survived. yeah that's good
May 24, 2013 9:28 p.m.
EXACTLY!!! and just think of the jace, tamiyo, and garruk pops this would trigger :)
TheOne4221 says... #2
Starting loyalty of two is fairly low unless the ult is going to be fairly cheap.
Get rid of the flying and trample, have it distribute 4 +1/+1 counters among any number of creatures you control.
Ult is pretty cool.
Name? Kiora Atua needs a card.
