I've got a loose idea of what I want (lifegain and token-based control) but I'm worried about how to protect Teysa and increase the deck's power. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated, thanks!

I had a teysa deck for the longest time and the Gwyllion Hedge-MageMTG Card: Gwyllion Hedge-Mage helped so many times due to teysa's ability of it being black and white, the spawning of another token.|You might want to try Fleshbag MarauderMTG Card: Fleshbag Marauder and a Sun TitanMTG Card: Sun Titan. A Mimic VatMTG Card: Mimic Vat fits in really well to the deck. Cauldron HazeMTG Card: Cauldron Haze has saved me more then once as well in a board wipe situation.

I just recently made a Teysa deck. At least in my group, she isn't a primary target, because she tends to be an engine card rather than a direct threat, and she's easier to recast than the other cards in the engine, so she's lower threat. Tuck effects could still be a problem.

Personally, I like using her with black token generators and instant sac effects. (Those also keep your general from being tucked.) Phyrexian AltarMTG Card: Phyrexian Altar and Ashnod's AltarMTG Card: Ashnod's Altar are both great. Dimir House GuardMTG Card: Dimir House Guard is a good sac outlet and also tutors up a lot of strong cards -- Ghost Council of OrzhovaMTG Card: Ghost Council of Orzhova, Emeria AngelMTG Card: Emeria Angel, Academy RectorMTG Card: Academy Rector, and Grave PactMTG Card: Grave Pact to name a few. One of my personal favorites is Tombstone StairwellMTG Card: Tombstone Stairwell, which is just kind of absurd with Teysa in play. It doesn't work as well with token-generating sorceries instead of actual bodies in the yard, but it doesn't take many creatures in your graveyard to make it worthwhile.

If you're looking for raw power, SkullclampMTG Card: Skullclamp is sort of a must, and Darkest HourMTG Card: Darkest Hour is basically a two-card combo with your general. I'll also second Fleshbag MarauderMTG Card: Fleshbag Marauder and Sun TitanMTG Card: Sun Titan, which are pretty consistently amazing in my experience.
