serra's Sanctum worth it?

Commander Deck Help forum

Hey, so I've been really enjoying Daxos the Returned and Heliod, God of the Sun as my commanders for awhile now. Neither is super competitive or optimal performance wise but they are fun. So I'm debating whether I should bite the bullet and get a Serra's Sanctum now that I have some store credit to throw around. The problem is that the card is in no really competitive decks if I go that way later and cost 45 to 50 dollars. Basically if I change commanders it'll probably rot in my binder. Has anyone used it and found it to be worth the price?

If you are playing enchantments and in white sanctum is probably worth while to run. It's from the same cycle as Gaea's Cradle and Tolarian Academy one of which puts you ahead to an insane degree the other was so good it got banned. Plus it's always an investment. Sanctum is on the reserve list and always has the potential to increase in price. I picked up my copy for 20 before Daxos was spoiled and look where it is now.

Rant aside if you have store credit I would definitely pick it up

Definitely. Always worth picking up a RL piece.

Opalescence with Leyline of Sanctity and other Leylines / Starfield of Nyx wants to be a thing...but thus far has proved to janky, inconsistent and too easy to disrupt. But the possibility to swing for 20 turn 1 is pretty scary. of course that only happens with a God-hand of 5 leylines, 1 opalescence & 1 sanctum.

I'd say if you can afford it, go for it. It can fit several Commander decks at the least....and it is on the Reserved List, so unless they kill this (unlikely anytime soon if ever) it will never be in an eternal masters type set...so while the price will fluctuate, it will still hold value.

daxos is one of my fav cmdrs. i got a serra sanc in a collection i bought and sold it asap. the ramp is not worth the price, considering Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx exists.

also, sanctum is only worth $40-50? worth over $80 when i sold mine. that is another reason not to buy.

Fair enough, thanks for the feedback guys. I'll pick it up, these buy outs make for hard choices! Never thought I'd have to pay that much for it, you guys think it's worth it over the other cards in that price range? Crucible of Worlds, Karn Liberated etc. I don't own any cards that price so I just want to make sure.

If you have dedicated enchantments decks, you need Sanctum. Get an Expedition Map and a Weathered Wayfarer in your deck and you've never had as much fun playing enchantments. If you enjoy the deck, do it!

Also, being on the reserved list, the card will only go up over time so it's an investment. Make sure to pick up a NM copy and keep it in good condition.

Id say hold on to the store credit and pick up a dual land. They hold price well, are used in all formats legal in, and can easily be moved if needed. Have fun either way.

don't waste the money. in a daxos deck Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is basically the same thing for less than. a tenth of the price

Daxos is one of my favorite commanders as well and I can say without a doubt Serra's Sanctum makes that thing fly. Yes, Nykthos is a thing but we're talking Magic here... invest in the Reserved List. You'll thank yourself in two to eighteen years.
