Hapatra Infect

Commander Deck Help forum

I’ve got a fairly typical Hapatra deck that I need to rework for reasons. I’m considering turning it into an infect deck, but I don’t want to do so if it’s just never going to be viable. Has anyone played Hapatra infect? Does it have a chance?

Daedalus19876 runs a nasty hapatra deck. While not infect, I'm sure Yawgmoth Thran Physician is a key piece in this, as all of his abilities are relevant. I'm assuming some Vines of Vastwood and Blossoming Defense might help punch and protect the infected creatures. Maybe Glistening Oil?

I have not specifically played a Haptra infect but infect can be viable. You also don't have too go 100% infect. Even as a sub theme it can work all right.

Though, personally I hate infect. Go wither. Wither all the way.

Thanks for clueing me in to that deck, Profet93. It’s a bit more combo-y than I was looking for, but there are definitely some good pieces in that that I’m going to add, including Yawgmoth.

I’m kind of thinking of a bit of both wither and infect, RiotRunner789. I’m running a good bit of proliferate, so I think that even a little splash of infect kill. I’m just not sure how much I’d need to put in, and whether it would draw more hate toward me than I could overcome.

The infect hate depends on your meta which may require adjusting after playing with them. I personally would try to get rid of infect with player removal but not everyone dislike infect as much as I do.

I have a friend who runs Hapatra non-infect, and it seems to work well enough (enough that we occasionally get crushed under the combined weight of beetles and snakes). The list posted is a Jund alter prototype, but he's since stripped the little red that was in there and gone back to pure Golgari.

I do not know what the most recent edits of the deck look like, though. I know things like The Ozolith made it in.

[House Ruled] Jund Hapatra!!!

awatts30 honestly most infect is kinda weak and apparently inspires a lot of feel bads. The infect strategy does work well with hapatra, though if you ask me there's not an abundance of god infect things you can even use. I would definitely be running Grafted Exoskeleton and Triumph of the Hordes. You should also consider Blightsteel Colossus if you have enough ramp or recursion for it. Infect is a viable strat for hapatra, they have to block the prevent poison counters and if they do that translates to -1/-1 counters.
