He was the other one I had in mind, but he's going in my W/R greek knights deck. I realized that I don't have a fast paced deck, and I'm thinking that could be it.

So this deck has been accused of doing too much of the same thing, exiling/flicker and wondered if there were some other cards I could add here that would make it more versatile.

now that i have some actual time where i am not brain fried, let me give a better response, cause i think this is something people say alot.

honestly, versatility is just a style of play, your deck is versatile enough to not be countered by a single tactic i feel, and if your main concern is grave hate or something then you can run solutions to that i feel. if you look at decks that utilize versatility to the greatest extant, they tend to be control decks that run a versatile answer set and just sit on those answers all day. you don't need to because A you are W/B so your answer pool lets you exile anything, which is amazing, and you don't play the deck that slow, nor do i think you will ever want to. your is a tempo deck where the tempo just happens to exile anything you don't like is the way i see it. so i guess it all boils down to, are you versatile enough to not be taken out by the same trick over and over again? be it graveyard hate or whatever.

Yeah I'd say the graveyard hate doesn't do much aside from slow me down a bit. I have enough flicker effects in here to make creatures in play just as deadly as ones that come from the graveyard repeatedly. I suppose I could add in something like Leyline of Sanctity to provide some more protection from Tormod's Crypt , but I have better things to do than deal with that singular problem. I suppose it just wears on you hearing the same old thing all the time, but I guess that's why I made Agents of Darkness and now Scorching Winds, which I'm looking forward to trying out tomorrow.

if you ever alt art some of the stuff in here, you gonna make some evil dead references?

You're damn straight I will. It's too bad the Grimoire of the Dead didn't work in here because that would have been a perfect fit for the theme.

Thanks Doragan, it's enjoyable to play and can be pretty versatile against a wide variety of decks.

Just a suggestion.. I used Disciple of Griselbrand for the gain life rather than High Market. Also wondering why you're not playing Mikaeus? He's kinda insane here.. especially with all your ETB junkies.

I used to do Mikaeus, Disciple and Rune-Scarred together.. Gain 14 life and tutor for 2 cards. Throw in Sheoldred and you're doing it every turn. ;)

I'll have to think about the Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, though people tend to exile creatures in my playgroup more than destroy them...which is why I use the High Market. It works as a way to kill off a creature to activate an ability and put it in the graveyard rather than have it exiled. Things like False Prophet become much more useful when I can activate them at any time. I think to make Mikaeus more useful I'd have to add some more sacrifice outlets in the deck so that I get more utility out of the undying ability. It's almost too tempting to add in a Triskelion though. The two cards are really too good together.

Well if they're exiling your creatures, wouldn't it just be easier if you sacked them in response and have them come back with undying?Plus you don't want to waste a tutor on a land that taps for colourless when you can get a unblockable 5/5 that buffs all your guys. There are plenty of good sac outlets out there though, Disciple was just my favourite. And yeah, opens you up to the infinite combo if you're that kind of player.

actually grabbing the land could be more useful in a bunch of situations in this playgroup. I'm one of the other people who plays in it and i can say that there's ALOT of creature removal, usually exile and tuck, and very little land destruction. and if something does get blown up that's a land, it's usually a particularly bad offendor like a Reliquary Tower of a player with a 40 card hand, or half of an Cabal Coffers + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth combo.

Well I may have found another addition to the deck...Wake the Dead.

that is so mean in so many ways...

I wonder if it's worth it to put in some black/white counterspells for those combo decks...

November 28, 2014 2:34 a.m.

Atsuma says... #22

i'd say run Sadistic Sacrament if that is a concern. it's amazing what a single hit of that will do to a combo deck, even without kicking it.

November 29, 2014 1:56 a.m.

freezerboy says... #23

That's a good point. And it still fits the exile theme of the deck.

November 29, 2014 5:11 a.m.

Atsuma says... #24

not just the exile theme, but the whole idea of an oppressive religious organization that controls everything about people and ruthlessly sacrifices and resurrects them. I just realized, Orzhov is the logical extension of a medieval style wealth/tax oriented church that has gained the ability to raise the dead. I know what theme will be showing up if i ever write another DnD campaign....

Rearranged some of the recursion a bit. Getting good use out of Wake the Dead. Makeshift Mannequin and Strands of Night. Hoping that adding a few more draw engines will keep the ball rolling...
