I built the Phylactery Lich deck based on the common traits of the typical lich - an immortal creature skilled in life-draining magic that is nearly impossible to destroy. Due to the sheer speed of the deck (the majority of spells are 3 CMC or less) and the indestructible nature of the lich, this is a fun deck to play as well as play against.

The best possible hand you could have would have to be a Darksteel Relic + Swamp + Dark Ritual + Phylactery Lich to drop an indestructible first-turn 5/5 monstrosity. The rest is just icing on the cake!

If creatures are going to beat you down, you can cast Simulacrum and pass all the damage to your Lich, which will not die.

Additionally, the Dark Rituals can be used to cast Geralf's Messenger, or pump up a Drain Life.
