Inspired by ʜᴏᴡ ᴄʜᴇᴀᴘ ᴄᴀɴ ᴀ ᴅᴇᴄᴋ ʙᴇ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴏᴜᴛ ɪᴛ ʙᴇɪɴɢ ʙᴀᴅ?, this is Modern list I'm going to fiddle with a bit. The idea is to keep it very budget and fairly janky, but I want to see how consistent I can make the jank version before I start toying with stuff like Gamble.
I was looking at some numbers, if I can get my Giant out turn 3 it will dig and odds are 2:1 that he'll dig out a Temur Battle Rage, so it's then a question (on turn 4) if I have binned enough lands to make Double Strike and Trample a win con. If I dig out another Giant, I just cast it, and if my 1 giant is too small for Battle Rage, I wait until next turn and hope for the jackpot. I run 3 giants because at 3 or 4 I still have to mulligan twice to expect to 'see' a Giant, so it's not a big difference I think when I'm already expecting to mulligan more than once, the upside is that I expect at least 1 more counter on my giant (average), going from 6.5 to over 7.5, 10.5 is pretty scary with TBR I'd wager, and if it's not that big I just wait a turn, turn 5 isn't THAT late in Modern if you've got a big clunky blocker, right?
Are there any lands that are rampy in Modern? This deck could use something like Sandstone Needle or Dwarven Ruins, tbh both are good enough that I want to take this deck to Legacy, to max out the laughs, if I did I could splash Green for Berserk, that's often better than Temur Battle Rage, even if it'll kill my dude.
