Maybeboard

Stronghold Gambit presents a fun little game-within-a-game. For a mere two mana, you can cheat out the nastiest threat imaginable... but your opponent gets to play, too, and if you're too greedy and you try to elect a creature that's too much mana, you just helped your opponent drop a free critter. Not too pretty.

Why even give him the chance, though? A player with no creatures in hand can't win the gambit, so tap into for discard, and you can empty your opponent's grip of viable options and you're guaranteed to drop anything you like. Valgavoth and It That Betrays fill that role nicely, spelling quick death for your foe once you cheat either one out.

Divest is vital, letting you see exactly what your opponent is holding and knock out any critters that might prevent your dishonest plans. Of course, simply running your foe out of cards entirely works just as well, and that's where Blightning, Hypnotic Specter and Slavering Nulls step in. Kroxa provides a backup win condition if your graveyard fills up enough for him to Escape, and Tourach can likewise become a viable threat with all the other discard being thrown around. Still, as the game wears on and your opponent is forced to commit creatures to the board to hold off your attackers, a good Gambit can always come out of nowhere to blindside a foe who has overextended.
