Comments, suggestions and ideas are greatly appreciated. If I make any changes to the deck based on someone's suggestion, I will acknowledge them here in the description with a link to their profile. Don't forget to +1 if you like it!
-- Also take a look at my two variations of this deck, Fluctuator Control (offering somewhat more protection for your combo) and Fluctuator Zombies (a variation which makes a huge horde of zombies). --
Recent changes include: the new sideboard. I took Ryeking31's great suggestion to put 3x Lotus Petal and 3x
Autumn's Veil
in my sideboard. I also changed Consume Spirit to Exsanguinate to make it viable for multiplayer games. This is my version of the Fluctuator and Consume Spirit combo deck.
How it works: Simply play two lands and Fluctuator and then start cycling through your deck until you hit the Lotus Petal, one or both of the Songs of the Damned and the Exsanguinate. Then play Lotus Petal, sacrificing it for black mana to play Songs of the Damned. Finally, nuke your enemy with Exsanguinate!
I've spent a lot of time working on my own ideas for this deck and studying the designs of other players who have built decks off of the same combo. Some would build it differently than I and I think some of the other options are equally viable. Really it just hinges on what decks you are going to be facing and how you want your deck to be. Either way, this deck, I think, is about as efficient as a Fluctuator/Exsanguinate deck can be--and it really is pretty impressive. It usually goldfishes before turn 5 and often on turn 3, sometimes turn 2.
The benefit of having two Songs of the Damned in the deck as opposed to just one, like many similar decks, is that there is a possibility that you will be able to go off well before you've cycled through your entire deck. You are also capable of dealing way more damage, in case your opponent has gained life in the first few turns.
The two
Miscalculation
in the deck help keep your combo going despite your opponent's efforts, however you have to have an island out. You can also swap these with something like Unburden. The point is that any deck like this is going to be very open to disruption but at least you have the possibility of protecting your combo.
Post with deck and SB suggestions! Would you have built this deck differently? I know one common build is to run:
4x Fluctuators1x Lotus Petal1x Songs of the Damned1x Consume Spirit1x Haunting Misery
The
Haunting Misery
is included in case they counter Consume Spirit/Exsanguinate. Anyways, share with your thoughts!
