Flare of Denial

Instant

You may sacrifice a nontoken blue creature rather than pay this spell's mana cost.

Counter target spell.

Got my best result tonight at 2&1, even after several mulligans

Flare of Denial is quite helpful.

Match I lost was to the new Ugin (Eugene). Didn't have a Flare.

Round 3 lost game 1 to mill deck. Sideboarded Gaea's Blessing and it did the trick for the next 2 games.

Progress.

Added a 1-drop and have settled on Faerie Seer for now.

Can help to find the cards I need early, and later to be sacked to Flare of Denial to further protect Abhorrent Oculus if i dont have Essence Flux or to counter a big threat from my opponent.

Presenting lethal on T5 more consistently.

Scooped a 2nd Flare of Denial today along with 4 Naga Fleshcrafter and 2 Breeding Poolfoil.

Ready to go for first tourney with the new list tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Still open to any and all suggestions that can make this better. Thanks.

Ya, Consider is probably the spell I would choose to swap/cut first. I'd probably opt for 2xFlare of Denial and 2xReality Shift, but that, I think is more of a personal preference call than a true judgement of which disruption spells are truly best.

The idea with the deck was to play cards that cannot be efficiently answered. If opponent spends 3-4 mana to clean up tokens generated from my spell costing thats enough of a win for me, to be worth it.

Thats why you can observe an utter lack of creatures without relevant triggered abilities in the deck. Bedlam Reveler is a "draw 3" card that dodges Force of Negation, which sometimes also endd up becoming a sizeable attacker - but thats just a bonus. Same goes for Clockwork Percussionist. Its mainly there to act as copies 5, 6, 7, 8 of Experimental Synthesizer

...well sweepers aint bad, as opponent tapping out for a sweeper means no Flare of Denial, and allows me to deal damage directly to face.

And well leyline of combustion is much more than just "possible tech against bowmasters, lava dart, W6".
For decks that can burn out the opponent, its one of the most universal hatecards.
It hits lots of combo decks, and pretty much all non-counterspell interactons.
Good against mill.
Good against targeted discard
Good against prowess, burn, phoenix
Often deals significant damage to unexpected players running Mishra's Bauble
Protect from opposing land destruction in eldrazi decks
Punishes activation of lotsa walkers
Creates downsides for enchantment based removal spells

Ah yes, the time-honored tradition of building infect in modern; i've tried many times and it always looks very similar to what you have here. GeminiSpartanX makes a fantastic point about wanting some access to protection for super cheap. If price is an issue, then I understand why you wouldn't use something like Flare of Denial or Force of Negation. Good luck at your FNM and I recommend that you invest in some non-zero copies of Mirrex for the mainboard.

It goes pretty fast, definitley one of my fastest aggro decks! I use to play modern merfolk years ago, so the fish are special to me.

Probably going to add: Strix Serenade and Flare of Denial removing the Aether Vialfoil and Blue Sun's Zenith.

Vial was really nice in modern, but if you don't have it out early it doesn't have much value in EDH.

I found playing the counterspells while having Lullmage Mentor and Vodalian Hexcatcher is sweet for control.

Icbrgr on Using Disrupting Shoal

the main point to consider with shoal or at least what i've been getting hung up on is the being able to cast on your turn. Force of Negation is amazing but if you go to tap out on your turn to play a threat like Goblin Charbelcherfoil/Jace, the Mind Sculptor or something like that... the build im doing doesn't have the means to use Flare of Denial as anything but a Cancel.

in my more COMBO style decks ive used Pact of Negationfoil where i just planned on going all out to win the game when i tapped out/played my combo pieces... but this brew doesnt quite play that way.
