Alpine Guide

Snow Creature — Human Scout

When Alpine Guide enters the battlefield, you may search your library for a Mountain card, put that card onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle your library.

Alpine Guide attacks each combat if able.

When Alpine Guide leaves the battlefield, sacrifice a Mountain.

Yurk, Aurochs Avalancher

Legendary Snow Creature - Aurochs

Whenever ~ attacks, creatures you control get +X/+0 and gain trample until end of turn, where X is the total power among all aurochs creatures you control.

Forests you control are snow in addition to their other types.

Tap ten untapped snow permanents you control: ~ deals 10 damage to each non-aurochs creature and each opponent.

5/7

Ghuuuurrrk is a noise most Alpine Guides don't want to hear on a trip to remote places."

Love it. +1 upvote from me.

As for card suggestions, have you considered Grid Monitor ? It's a similar effect to Steel Golem which I see you have included. Pyromancer's Swath is another great one and can just end the game for whichever poor soul you drop it on since they have to top deck a way to remove it and enchantments can be especially hard to remove. Mindmoil can be similarly difficult to deal with and can disrupt a lot of people's strategies. Additionally, as a piece of red ramp, Alpine Guide can be great because you get the land and your opponent gets nothing (and if they have mountains it gets really good).

Finally I just have to mention a pet card of mine, Mages' Contest . It's a red counterspell that no one sees coming and can lead to some fun games of chicken with your opponents (and gets really good in a deck like this where your opponents will likely have already lost a lot of life to your Blim, Comedic Genius , so even if they bid more life than you it can still leave them dangerously low if they play it wrong).

Hopefully those suggestions are helpful!

Coward_Token, great call! I will have to test it out a bit, but this card certainly seems good enough to make the cut!

jexicanwrestler, very cool list! I am intrigued by the inclusion of Fleshwrither in particular. I had never seen that card before, and it could definitely hit a few juicy targets in my deck! As far as reccomendations for your list, I've been pretty impressed with Alpine Guide so far as a clunkier version of Solemn Simulacrum. He's particularly ideal if you can sac him in response to his trigger before you have a mountain on the board (a little niche, I admit!). Speaking of sacrificing, I'd highly recommend adding Phyrexian Altar to your list. Even though you'd usually rather have an Ashnod's Altar, the effect is powerful enough to include both in my opinion. I'd also recommend Buried Ruin. Just as Crucible of Worlds provides incidental value for Grenzo whiffs, this one can help Goblin Engineer/Welder with that task for artifacts! Hope some of that helps. Good luck on your Dungeon Adventure. Upvoted!

Alright nick, I’ve got some suggestions for you.

First thing I think Kodama’s reach and cultivate are absolutely essential to your curve to accelerate your commander to the battlefield. In a 3 color deck, your color fixing matters, and the second part of those cards are extremely relevant. I think you can drop Alpine Guide for at least one. I know it sacrifices, but it’s in a limited and perhaps unnecessary role.

Reliquary Tower for scapeshift and card draw synergy. Maybe some other ways to get max hand size Thought Vessel ..you’re going to be drawing a lot of cards.

I think the food theme is a little cluttered here and you are losing a lot of value in your deck based off of a mechanic that was built for a particular format. Don’t get me wrong, some of them are fine, but some of them don’t do enough.

Mana fixing is key here, make sure you have enough rocks, consider adding in a Chromatic Lantern . Also if you can make the investment Phyrexian Alter is much better than Ashnod’s.

Looks like you’ve got a project on your hand, put some money into it and you’ll have a good deck.
