TappedOut History?

TappedOut forum

I'm new to the site having just joined last week and have been pretty impressed by what I've seen so far. I haven't been playing Magic for that long, I first picked up MTG DOTP 2013 for free during xbox games with gold and got hooked on the game, but I only just started buying paper magic within the last year or so, and only playing casually with a few friends. I found this site while revamping a couple of my decks (first time I have time to do this sort of stuff since buying the cards, engineering student), and have been pretty impressed with how close-knit the community seems and the resources available for deck-building... but I can't find anything about the site itself, such as how it started or when. Is there an obvious About page I'm missing? Just curious about this community.

The big boss is yeaGO. He created and runs the site, which has been up for 5 or 6 years I believe. Epochalyptik is second in command and does most managerial and moderation work, along with ChiefBell. A few other users have admin related privileges (I, for example, can post/edit articles) but those 3 are the main trifecta here and can solve most of your problems.

Yeago has been asked before about site history, but as far as I know he doesn't do much story time.

Also, welcome to Tappedout. I'm happy to answer any questions you have about the site or Magic in general.

No, but for real, welcome. I'm Spooty, another person who can post/edit articles. I hope you enjoy your stay and if you need help I will do what I can for ya.

Insert big Welcome banner here

Jay outlined it pretty nicely though.

Also, I'm not sure what format you play, but there's a Modern Primer made by some users and compiled by ChiefBell, and a Modern User Specialties List. Epoch equally has some EDH staples decks if you're interested.

Awesome, thanks for the warm welcome guys. Yeah when I first signed up I enjoyed the amusing tutorial and it was very helpful and clear, its just most sites have some sort of a history page that outlines the site's life and various admins and such, whereas TappedOut's homepage is decks upon decks. This isn't a bad thing necessarily, its just I was wondering if there was a beginning to TappedOut or if it just burst forth spontaneously into the internet like some Primordial beast that has always guided the Magic players of the world. Ya know, nomral new user questions.

Also, TheNightwing, I can only offer a cow, but if this is not sufficient, I will swear my firstborn over in recompense.

FAMOUSWATERMELON Right now I'm just kind of playing whatever with my friends. I have checked my decks and most do fall within Modern, one or two Legacy, although I'm trying to restrict that a bit to stay within modern. I have yet to play EDH, but a friend and I are starting our first Commander decks, but mostly due to lack of paper cards and funds its still a little ways off. My collection has grown pretty rapidly within the past year, but I'm still a ways off before I can just throw together a good EDH deck that has good synergy. Right now I'm working on filling out my Modern decks with any singles I may need to bring it together.

First off, welcome.

Next, if you are interested in EDH, then you can't go wrong with looking at the new(er) Blue Commander prepacked deck with Teferi, Temporal Archmage as it's commander. The reason? It has a lot of the staples that EDH uses, such as Sol Ring, Thran Dynamo, Nevinyrral's Disk and a few others. If you like Blue as a color, I don't think you can go wrong with that deck. Any of those decks are really good, honestly, to get a decent EDH foothold/collection built.

Just my thoughts. And once again, welcome.

Welcome to the site! Fantastic community, I hope you enjoy your time here as much as I do. Depending on the format that you want to play, you'll get various level of help. This site seems to attract mostly Modern and EDH players from what I can gather. As was stated before, we have a Modern Format Primer, and many of our modern players are very active, and willing to help out with whatever deck you want to try out.

I would say that Modern is a healthy 50% of the site. EDH and Standard are still present, they're just smaller forces.

Here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here is some lists about EDH.

Welcome to the party :)

I've been around for a little over a year now and I don't know anything about the history either.

DrLitebur I have been contemplating investing in one of the prepackaged Commander decks, Mono Blue wasn't really what I was aiming for but I'll definitely look into them for the various staples and such.

FAMOUSWATERMELON That is one heck of a list of cards. I'll have to start gradually sifting through it. Thanks for all the help guys

IcyLightning no, no I believe a cow will suffice. We actually don't support the sacrificing of newborns anymore...things get ugly really fast :P

Hi!

I move threads around and aim to do helpful things.

I also write a lot about modern. I write articles, primers, challenges, and sometimes I just write rubbish too!

If you have any questions about modern feel free to ask.

Have a nice time :)

Welcome to the Hotel California! Haha!

Epoch also has Pandora's Deckbox, a great deckbuilding article series, as well as some EDH stuff on his profile page. Do scope it out.

Legacy isn't as hot here as Modern, EDH, or Standard (Vintage even less so), however those of us who do play Legacy are more than welcome to offer constructive criticism should you want help with a deck.

That being said, cheers good sir!

June 12, 2015 10:02 p.m.

I'm the guy that does the stuff. Ask me if you need clarification.

Also, read forum descriptions, post dates, etc. Be a savvy forum user. We'll get along well.

No mention of me? ;-;

I claim to be the user that is number 3 in being the one who contributes most to the site :D

I handle the card database for this site at the moment. I also have many smaller projects which have basically been abandoned since I got a job that basically leaves me with only 1-3 hours a day to myself. Such is life.

Wow I was not expecting this response especially from people who seem to really help run the site. Makes a guy feel all warm inside.

Epochalyptik I'm pretty conscientious about forums but learning the various quirks of any site takes some time. I've already seen a couple of necroed threads on the main forums page, almost posted to one before I saw that it was originally posted in like early 2013. The guy before me though dragged that one straight from the depths of dead threads though because the original post only had like 2 comments all within a week of it being posted... then 2 years later.

June 12, 2015 11:38 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #23

Stuff like that sometimes can happen because of Google.

You google search a topic, t/o pops up, click and immediately comment, boom! Necroed thread.

June 12, 2015 11:45 p.m.

IcyLightning says... #24

I get that. I've googled quite a few cards and combos and been given threads that are a few years old, but to comment you need an account and unless you're new to posting on forums on ANY site... how hard is it to check when the thread was posted?

June 12, 2015 11:53 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #25

No one ever bothers to check anything for this site. Ever. Misplaced threads and questions that can be answered through a little looking are everywhere. Even the regulars are culprit to it.

June 13, 2015 12:29 a.m.

Yeah, even with reminders and warnings, people still post Rules Q&A in the wrong forum lol.

And there be lots of necromancers dredging up old threads. I'm waiting for some of my old rants about the subject to get necroed, in fact lol.

Spootyone says... #27

Maybe necro-ing would go away if we removed swamps from the site? I know my conclave would be okay with this... :)

Let's not get off topic here.
