Okay, so we all know about the Sword cycle from Mirrodin, yes? Sword of Fire and Ice, Sword of Body and Mind, Sword of Feast and Famine, Sword of Light and Shadow, and Sword of War and Peace. Now, these are in enemy colors. I was wanting to ask you guys, the tappedout community: what are some of your ideas for ALLY color Swords? Reminder: Ally colors are , , , , and .

~Sword of Law and Order: protection from white and blue. Tap one land and one creature defending playing controls. those permanent dont untap durning their controls next uptap step.

~Sword of Secrets and Lies protection from blue and black. look at the top of defending players library and defending player's revels his or her hand. choose a non-land card with CMC of 3 or less and that player discards it

~Sword of Suffer and Anguish protection form black and red. defending player sacrifices a creature and Sword of Suffer and Anguish deals 2 damage to you

~Sword of Reforge and Rebirth protection from red and green. draw a card then discard a card. return target creature card from your graveyard to your hand

~Sword of Growth and Guidance protection for green and white. you may play an additional land this turn and uptap all creatures you control

swkelly89: Those would all work and are balanced. The only one who needs better wording is sword of secrets and lies. Great thought though!

swkelly89 those would all work for the ally theme.

but "Sword of Reforge and Rebirth" has the same ability as Sword of Light and Shadow

and while "Sword of Law and Order" seems overpowered and hyper oppressive, "Sword of Suffer(ing?) and Anguish" feels underwhelming and almost unplayable.

Izu_Korasu damn i didnt notice that. suffer and anguish, i thought having an edict effect on a stick was OP so i tried to balance it with the shock to the player. and the tap down abilities for law and ordered didnt seem to OP, just 1 land and 1 creature

Shame and Passion: +2/+2 pro r/b, opponent sacks a creature and exile the top card of your library, until end of turn you may play that card

Secrets and Sabotage: +2/+2 pro u/b, scry 3 and opponent discards a card of their choice

Restraint and Mercy: +2/+2 pro u/w, tap target permanent opponent controls for a turn and you gain 4 life

Growth and Unity: +2/+2 pro g/w, fetch a basic land to your hand and support 3 (Lead by Example for explanation)

Freedom and Fury: +2/+2 pro r/g, add to your mana pool for each creature you control - doesnt empty in phases for the turn and return a card with cmc 3 or less from your graveyard to your hand

Each of these is in the standard Sword format.

Zaueski overall (with the exception of law/suffer and anguish) i prefer the way you had the ally swords work together for a common goal separating the cycle from the orginal enemy swords.

so i would probably keep with ally theme as the balance of cards like growth/guidance and secrets/lies feels realistic.

sword of law and order is overpowered even by cmc standards. casting a mini-Exhaustion on a player every turn is always hugely powerful. Where as a mini-edict is only powerful against some decks with some boardstates overall it has less impact then turbo-frosting target creature and target land.

from the second set, restraint/mercy and shame/passion are a bit more balanced, also secrets/sabotage also has the same discard as Sword of Feast and Famine and the inclusion of a non-evergreen mechanic on growth/utility feels off.

Sword of Wisdom and Suffering

Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and has protection from blue and black.

Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, you may have target player sacrifice a creature. If a creature is sacrificed this way draw a card.

Sword of Blow & Valium

Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and has protection from white and blue.

Whenever equipped creature attacks, untap all your attacking exile target nonland permanent. Whenever equipped creature blocks, all creatures blocked by it do not untap during their controller's next untap phase.

Sword of Fuel & Fire

Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and protection from green and red.

Whenever equipped creature attacks, add one mana of any color to your mana pool and destroy target land.

and best of all...

Sword of Do or Die & Scroll Rack.

Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and protection from black and blue.

Whenever equipped creature attacks, Do or Die, then Scroll Rack.

ahahahahahahaha Sword of Blow and Valium only exiles target permanent for the white half. I was going for a Relentless Assault effect at first for flavor, but it didn't fit the color scheme.

Sword of Love and Hate,

Artifact - Equipment

Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and has protection from red and from black.

Whenever equipped creature attacks, you may draw a card and discard X cards. If you do, target creature gets -X/-X until end of turn.

Notes: I was hoping to tap into Kolaghan/Mardu's love of "whenever a creature attacks", red's impulsive draw/discard and black's -X/-X removal. The "whenever attacks" might not fit into the standard sword cycle, but maybe this could be one exception? Otherwise, replace it with "Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, you may draw a card and discard X cards."
