WotC announcement:

I haven't been playing a lot of Modern lately, but I'm sad to see this happen. I get R&D's reasoning though.

Any Eggs players going to still play the deck, despite the ban?

Glad KCI was banned. The match up is very uniteractive and over powered. I'm typically never happy to see any deck get banned, but KCI needed to go.

Darn it I really wanted an Ancient Stirrings ban. Screw Tron.

Anyway, I didn't mind the deck, but only because I had a very favored matchup against it. For the general health of modern this is probably for the best.

This thing was just a grindy, uninteractive machine that led to a lot of confusion, extensive games, and clogged the top of the Meta. It wouldn't be fair for other decks to feel the ripple from a Mox or Stirrings ban.

Glad to see KCI go.

Eggs is my favorite deck to play, it was a budget one(around 70$), i was pretty even with it in win/lose at my FNM. Also I was almost never the last to finish our round (we are around 10-12 people most of the time). I guess I'll go full jank while finding a way to play eggs after the ban

i wish ancient stirrings was banned. Now my thopter sword combo deck can't go infinite anymore, so i might as well sell that deck. This should kill most eggs players decks, as now they don't get mana to continue to combo anymore. At least this should cut down on the amount of Stony Silence we see in sideboards.

Still feel like there are far worse things in Modern.

ToolmasterOfBrainerd: what deck are you playing that was "highly favored" against KCI but loses to tron? btw, nothing wrong with tron and a stirrings ban would only be a minor inconvenience to them. they'd just replace it with another big threat.

January 22, 2019 12:30 a.m.

coltron518 Grixis control. I can keep their creatures off the table which hurts their combo ability and I can counter KCI repeatedly without any problems. Especially post-board. Their surprise sideboard plans can get me but I still beat the deck almost every time in local tournaments. I concede that at higher levels, KCI players are probably better, but my lgs is very competitive (many players that frequent scg opens and gp's). Arguing over whether I would have as good of a matchup at higher levels of play isn't a productive discussion now that the deck is banned.

But Tron also sucks for me. This I'm certain of. My clock isn't good enough and I cannot compete with their end game. Especially when Tron makes virtually no concessions to aggro decks.

Stirrings ban would be way more than a mild inconvenience for Tron. It takes a massive bite out of their consistency. The Tron players I've talked to say they'd replace it with Oath of Nissa , but it still renders the deck much less consistent. And its consistency is one of the best reasons to play Tron in the first place.

I'm a little bummed because I just got more copies of Stony Silence . I splash white for it and RIP in my Grixis control deck. I'll probably still use it but that sideboard plan just got worse.

ToolmasterOfBrainerd: tron still has PLENTY of consistency without stirrings. they'll still hit their lands and threats with almost no problems. 8 draw spells and 8 land tutors. idk what your sideboard looks like for tron but in grixis control you could be running Negate or Countersquall and re-using them with Snapcaster Mage or Mission Briefing . maybe some Ionize . countering their spells while simultaneously burning them seems pretty good.

Matt_The_OGRE can't thopter sword still go infinite with Time Sieve ?

TreeCat - Time Sieve goes kind of infinite with the thopter sword combo. You need 5 mana and the ability to win before you deck yourself, which should be easy. KCI was the quicker route though plus I never needed the black splash.
