How to deal with Iona

I play my
Mono-Green Devotion Ramp 2.0 Playtest
Modern
SCORE: 0 | 0 COMMENTS | 101 VIEWSand I faced the four color gifts ungiven deck and got smashed by Iona, Shield of Emeria any suggestions on how to beat the gifts deck or linvala?

Torpor Orb won't actually do anything. She doesn't have an ETB trigger, it just happens, like the effect a Clone has. You'd have to either counter the spell or, in the case of reanimation, exile it as it's targeted for reanimation.

Torpor Orb DOES work. Iona has you pick the color as her ETB. If that trigger never happens, the color never gets picked, and then it's just a hefty creature.

However, you have to play the orb before Iona shows up.

You have blue so add counter/bounce spells. Or splash black for removal. If she sticks, there isn't really any way to deal with her.

Triggered abilities are worded "when, whenever or if." Iona does not have a triggered ability, it's just a static ability that you choose the mode of when she enters.
If Gifts is a problem, Scavenging Ooze could help. Grafdigger's Cage could work too.

Rapid Hybridization since they're inevitably gonna pick green against you. As for Linvala, Keeper of Silence any type of removal works.

Iona's "choose a colour" is a static ability with a replacement effect; it doesn't use the stack and is not triggered. Torpor Orb cannot help here.

I thought gifts ungiven tried to hard cast like tron? Maybe I'm wrong. If it does then use Ghost Quarter / Tectonic Edge . Scavenging Ooze will deal with any graveyard shenanigans.

I was looking around and i was wondering what you thought about Quicksilver Amulet to cheat out my creatures after Iona, Shield of Emeria hits.

@selesvyaloverer8 Never try to find a convoluted way to work around a problem when you can just deal with it outright. Rapid Hybridization , Scavenging Ooze are both good, with Rapid Hybridization being much more versatile in killing any hate creature. Also, how did you let the Gifts deck get so far in the game to Unburial Rites an Iona? In my experience devotion gets online much faster than that.

I don't think it's worth the slot in the sideboard because it won't be useful against anything else. Your best bet is to go for main board land hatred because that destroys a few decks and main board scooze along with some sideboard graveyard hate like graf cage.
