How do Exalted decks fair

Modern forum

I would assume any sort of exalted deck isn't tier 1 or anything, but I always loved the mechanic and ran exalted when it was in standard around m13. I'm wanting to try and play modern as I'm growing tired of standard and wondering if exalted would be a good idea to start off with. I've also heard that a modern burn deck can be competitive while on a budget. Is there other budget tier 2 decks out there that can play well?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Hopefully I can get closer to playing modern.

You probably don't want to play single-attacker decks in a format of cheap removal. Lightning Bolt , Path to Exile , and others kind of shut exalted down.

What Epochalyptik said.

I think you'd be better off playing a Bant hatebear deck with Qasali Pridemage s, Noble Hierarch s, and maybe even Ardent Plea .

The main problem with exalted cards is most of them are attached to 3 butts, meaning they get wrecked by Lightning Bolt and Anger of the Gods . Rafiq of the Many is one of the better exalted cards, but tapping four mana to lose a card to a one mana kill spell is just awful in Modern.

Alternatively, have you thought about doing something like Rafiq of the Many for EDH? He's one of the better generals in the format and the essential cards required to build the deck would probably be cheaper than building a Modern deck.

Still, I've been wanting to play a Bant aggro deck in Modern myself, so I'd love to see what someone else comes up with.

They won't be good. You'd rather be attacking with a bunch of guys than just one guy. That said, you can build an aggressive deck featuring cards like Qasali Pridemage and Noble Hierarch , and could fit that into a Bant/Naya shell or a Hatebears shell.

Burn is pretty competitive and doesn't break the bank.

I played around with a Bant Exalted combo deck of sorts, built to win turn 4 consistently. That being said, It certainly wasn't cheap, and not incredibly competitive. I'd go for something else. And on the opposite realm of the archetypes, I like my Mono White Turbofog which is budget friendly. I'll link it if you so desire. Besides burn though, the only other Tier 2 budget ish decks that come to mind are B/W Tokens and Soul Sisters.

The only thing that can prevent those "I prevented your entire combat step this turn" scenarios is running things like Ranger's Guile and Simic Charm for instants, and then using hexproof creatures like Invisible Stalker for more back-up plans. Unfortunately hexproof creatures makes exalted decks 2-3 turns slower than normal in which exalted is normally a turn 3-4 win deck. I also mentioned Ranger's Guile and Simic Charm specifically because they can buff, which is one of the reasons why my exalted deck 300 and Alone has one of the most consistent turn 4 goldfishing wins. Please note, Goldfishing. It dies to practically any deck. Infect is more consistent because you can pack a lot more anti-removal cards due to only needing one or two creatures whereas in exalted you need 4+.

Infect is the only real exalted deck that works really well with the mechanic. Other decks run the exalted creatures for their other abilitys. Infect activly wants the trigger. And its a blast to play U/G Infect if your a aggro player at heart. Its an aggro/combo/control deck, almost like the tempo based delver decks but with a quiccker clock.
