Modern Deck Help forum

Prior to Woo going off the deep end and talking about...well...the EV of historical events, he had a deck called Mono Blue or Vial Wizards.

Based off Mono Blue Martyr in legacy, the deck had a similar plan. Play shitty creatures who provides filtering/CA. Draw a ton with Sky Hussar. Cheat on mana with AEther Vial.

Recently however, Reflector Mage got printed. And I was thinking could this deck actually become a thing.

If you drop the poor 3 drops of Thassa, Kira, maybe artificer and play Reflector Mage, you suddenly have some interesting tempo or value plays.

Spell Queller too, while not being a wizard could take over one of those maligned 3 drop slots as a counter and a 2/3 body.

Harbinger of the Tides presents another tempo play, and is worth looking into at least.

Some people have suggested the new Docet of Perfection but with the limited number of spells, it is unlikely to flip or generate value.

So thoughts?

You're missing the best Wizard in the format : Snapcaster Mage.

I'd love this to work but I just don't know if the subtype brings anything. Unless you go heavy aggro and put in some Cavern of Souls idk...

Btw what spells would you see in there? Path / Leak? I want to see Docent of Perfection  Flip perform well but it seems tough :)

Sadly Riptide Laboratory isn't legal because that would be a huge thing for the deck.

Docent of Perfection  Flip doesn't require all the wizards to be ones he created, meaning any of the other wizards can get him to flip once you cast a spell. Turn Snappy into a 4/2 flier...hmm

Voidmage Prodigy and perhaps Docent of Perfection  Flip are your rewards for playing (coincidentally, I might add) tribal wizards. I might mess around with the deck. It looks interesting.

Well the thing is, if you look at the list, it isn't a deck that relies on spells. It is more like Merfolk in that it cheats on its mana with vial and uses that to press an advantage with Voidmage Prodigy.

My problem with Reflector Mage is that, apart from Venser, I'm not sure what creatures to replace. It looks pretty tight.

There were further updates, if you look.

For example a later version dropped the 1 drops and spellstutters for Omenspeaker. I'm brewing at list currently

I'm a bigger family of the first list, but maybe it will help me figure out what to change.
