Help Creating a "fun" Commander Deck

Deck Help forum

I am looking to get into EDH format and have always enjoyed playing different kinds of decks. I would love to create a deck that can be somewhat competitive while also being gimmicky and annoying the living daylights out of my opponent (Things that would probably make people not want to play me again). I am not really sure where to start with this and am accepting any and all ideas into consideration.

If you're just starting out, take a look at the resources on my profile page. That should give you some direction.

I also highly advise looking through the list of commanders (do a Gatherer or magiccards.info search for legendary creatures) and selecting a couple that you think you might like to work with.

The Mimeoplasm is the funnest deck I have ever played. This color combination gives you almost limitless possibilities.

Try a Talrand, Sky Summoner creatureless Counterspell deck! I have one and my friends don't want to play with me anymore :D. It's very fun. I built mine for around 40$ so you can buy it even if you're on a budget... I highly reccomend.

Ok, so looking around I think I have found some generals that seem interesting to work with. first: Riku of Two Reflections would be interesting to be able to make cheap copies of spells or creatures. Another I thought would be fun to work with would be Sen Triplets so i would be able to stop them playing things on my turn and have possibilities to take some of their cards too. I also love to try to mill people out too so Oona, Queen of the Fae seems like an interesting option to try. Any opinions on these and how well they would work in this style of deck?

Riku goes infinite very easily if you're not conscious about your build choices. I'm not sure if that's something you want. However, it's perfectly viable as a non-infinite deck, and it can be powerful regardless of which path you choose.

Sen Triplets has this effect where the amount of hate you receive is disproportionate to the power you actually have. You'll need some diplomacy for that one.

Oona, Queen of the Fae is alright. You can go infinite with it if you want, but noninfinite mill is pretty bad in EDH.

Are you wanting budget? It does make a big difference on decks that you might be interested in. Karn, Silver Golem is my personal favorite lots of ways to just destroy your opponents with infinite turns and infinite control of opponents turns and a ton of other things. Also Empress Galina it pretty fun when you kill others with there own creatures and commanders. Marrow-Gnawer is a cheap deck that makes just beastly rats and infinite rats + Door of Destinies is just dumb. If you enjoy mill Phenax, God of Deception is pretty good with big beefy creatures and Leyline of the Void. Lastly if you want people to hate your deck, just play infect with Marchesa, the Black Rose.

I do kind of like the idea of playing someones deck while also not letting them play it themselves. Which is why I like the idea of Sen Triplets. If I combine it with a lot of counters and ways to play their own cards from their decks I could see some people being very frustrated with me. On the topic of budget or not, I'm going to go with not and see what the pricing comes too once the deck is put together online. Then I'll slowly collect the cards I need over time.

Well, the reason to consider budget now is that it can drastically affect the way your deck works. Some strategies require several expensive cards to be viable in a certain way, and if you want to design the deck without those cards, you're going to need to modify the approach a bit and choose different options.

Fair enough. while looking through cards I saw some can hit $100 or over and I've not got that kind of money on hand. If possible I would prefer not to go above $20 for a single card unless its a very important part of the deck. So I guess building it budget would be a good option for now.

Group hug decks, or decks with the illusion of group hug, are some of the most fun decks to play and play against. Really, anything that adds politics to a game is good fun. Are there any specific colour(s) you'd like to play with?

OK, so I have been looking around and kind of like the idea of shutting my opponent out and playing their own things without allowing them to do much at all. so far this is what I have come up with (don't know many older cards): To be Named I would love help finishing it up and any recommendations would be appreciated. though, I would like to keep the cost of any one card under $20.
