Should I update the commander?

Commander Deck Help forum

SO, had this old deck from a while ago that really needs the dust blown off and a nice coat of paint thrown on: The Deck

Should I update the Commander to Yidris, I never see love for him and maybe a Superfriends deck is what he needs. I like the color combination and the best colors are there [UBG] for Walkers, with White and Red easily interchanged with the lack of more interesting walkers [IMHO that is] so I want to be a bit different, so a Superfriends would be nice, any suggestions?

I don't think having a supplemental color will help the deck much, it will add cards you can select obviously, but not certain if the pay-off is worth it.

While Yidris is/looks like a fun commander to build around, he requires to actually do damage, so it may be trickier to turn on cascade.

There have been new cards coming out, and a bunch of those care about planeswalkers. You could update the deck accordingly by adding stuff like Oath of Nissa.

Now that I think about this more, adding white may actually help you with the Superfriends thing because you get access to Oath of Ajani and Oath of Gideon as well as Call the Gatewatch. If you insist on going 4-color that would mean either some partner combination or go with Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis as commanders of the deck

Hmm, yeah always thought about that, but the commander itself really doesn't help, and sure Maelstrom isn't a 'Superfriends' monster like Atraxa, but if i plan the cascade right i can at least try and cheat one card with like a Scroll Rack, Sensei's Divining Top, or Sylvan Library

I used to run a Melek, Izzet Paragon deck which turned into a Riku of Two Reflections deck which then turned into a Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder deck. He is a,lot of fun but I did find that the theme of the deck quite heavily changed with each rebuild. It definitely has a,much heavier storm focus now. But yeah, Yidris is good fun. I would recommend running Slip Through Space if you're going to play him.
