Commander Deck Help forum

ok so, this is kind of a part 2 of my first post, and now, having tested a bunch of different decks, I know a good play style that I like.

  1. I like budget. like 200 to get started, and then have room for upgrades.

  2. I like a deck that can be midrange, but has combos within it.

  3. I don't want to be the target right off the bat. with something like norin, I was always the first one off the table.

  4. i am open to multi-colored, i just can't spend too much on the manabase.

  5. [EDIT] I also want a deck that can be played in both multiplayer and 1v1 scenarios.

Any help that you guys could give would be great! Thanks in advance!

My Maelstrom Wanderer deck is pretty fun, and meets your criteria, provided that you tell the rest of the table that you don't run infinite combos or MLD (which is true).

Look at my Animar, Soul of Victorious, it can combo-out any time and maintain a great bord presence.

DVLuca, I love the deck, but it is waaaaaaay out of my price range, even without foils.

The Mimeoplasm fits your description pretty well. I play mine very much like a mid range beat down with tons of etb value. However, it can and will eventually combo out. And if the combo is somehow stopped, it can be pretty easy to reset and try to combo off the next turn... and the next... and the next until you win.

For Budget decks I prefer them to be 2 color and not 3 as the mana base is much cheaper. If you were to look for the best dual lands, pretty much any deck without is relatively cheap.

Personally I made a Daxos the Returned deck and it plays how you describe. NOBODY sees it as a threat. It is cheap to build (just buy the Precon), and upgrades are rampant. It doesn't have so even the most expensive land in the deck Scrubland is relatively cheap when you compare it against others. It is midrange that can either combo out or beat people down old fashioned style.

Do note, it is meant to be as competitive as Daxos can be, which is still fairly casual. Daxos will never be top tier, but he is fun, cheap, and can actually win games. You also gain the benefit of being able to upgrade him over time. There are plenty of card choices to upgrade him.

I'm not saying build Daxos, but perhaps something like him.

Actually I second Daxos the Returned.

I built him reluctantly a while ago and it turned into one of my favorite decks. Also should come in under 200 even if you splurge for a Serra's Sanctum like I did.

He is really fun, nobody thinks he is a threat, but wins a surprising number of games. The way I built it is to play as many defensive enchants as possible (Sphere of Safety, No Mercy, Karmic Justice, Greater Auramancy, that kind of thing) amd them start pumping out 8/8 spirits until you win.

Here's a list if you are interested

Yeah the Precon for Daxos the Returned is cheap and it comes with some good stuff. You actually get a number of good Enchantments. He also comes with some jank so it's easy to pull stuff out to replace with better cards.

You don't have to be like me and run expensive stuff. Although it is pretty nice running Serra's Sanctum, Cabal Coffers, and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. Mana for days, and too many targets for them all to get Strip Mined.

Like RedUndead40 said, I suggest a control style build as that provides the best opportunity to either combo out or smash face.
