C17 Vampires - What are the cards you would take out for sure?

I recently bought a C17 Vampires precon, that I wanted to improve with some cards from other sets, mainly XLN and RIX (such as Vona, Vanquisher's Banner, Sanctum seeker, the RIX Vampire lord and so on).

While I found some articles online listing the best cards to use in the deck, i had a hard time finding which ones are the less useful, thus the ones that can be easily removed without affecting the overall performance.

What are the cards you would take off for sure? I read about Curses, but not much else.

Play a few games and figure out what doesn't do well in your play group then remove the cards that don't do well

It depends on what you would like to put in. I have the deck and have played it a few times, I'm not sure if I have removed the right cards. But if you play it, you might get a feel for what cards to remove. If you don't are happy to draw it a lot of times, you can remove it :)

I have removed around 20 cards, you can check my deck out if you are interested: Edgar

I personally don't think Pawn of Ulamog deserves a spot in the deck, but that's because I'm playing a full out aggressive deck. I don't really like the life-gain aspect of vampires if it's front and center, so Licia, Sanguine Tribune, Tithe Drinker, Falkenrath Noble, and Vampire Nighthawk came out as well. I also cut Vein Drinker, Skeletal Vampire, Blood Baron of Vizkopa, Kheru Mind-Eater, Bloodhusk Ritualist, Crimson Honor Guard and Sangromancer.

All of this is what I cut from my deck, because its a beatdown/swarm deck. Things that take away from that don't deserve a spot. Butcher of Malakir is still in because I can kill my things to make them lose things, so I can punch them.

All and all, I think that you definitely should play some games with the precon, and see what does and doesn't work for you. I have a friend who plays Licia, Sanguine Tribune and goes for more of a pillowfort/lifegain deck. It's really up to you. Hope this helped.

It depends what your goal is. I wanted it to play more like a 2-color deck that's super aggro, so I cut out most of the high cmc cards (5 and up), and really focused on black-white with a life-gain subtheme. Red-black would be another path cutting out the lifegain stuff. Making more like a 2-color deck helps a ton with consistency, and helps with the budget as I can't afford to shell out for all the og duel lands or even the fetches.
