Animar As Utility, Hate vs. Utility

I have a Tim deck, Tim being our good friend Prodigal Sorcerer. My Tim deck is RUG and currently runs Riku of Two Reflections as the genral but I wan't something that has synergy with tim and his kin. I was thinking Animar, Soul of Elements. He's RUG, he's good, he lessens cost and is good after 3 casts. But in multiplayer, he draws so much hate. None of the 3 other temur commanders draw my eye so, advice?
Animar, Soul of Elements with Cloudstone Curio, Deadeye Navigator or Temur Sabertooth, then Palinchron, Great Whale or Peregrine Drake nets you a ton of mana (also Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger/Caged Sun with Palinchron, and morph creatures with Cloudstone Curio)
Temur Ascendancy, Maelstrom Wanderer, Urabrask the Hidden, etc for haste if you need it
There are lots of creatures that destroy noncreature permanents in 
, lots of disruption creatures in 
, and lots of creatures that ping in 
if that's your plan

The issue is, while I run several infinite mana combos, this may sound weird, I don't wan't it to be super competitive, my LGS runs 2 commander circuits and I prefer to play int he casual one, soooo, from one ninja to another, I don't wan't to turn tim into animar
