FNM Results —Oct. 14, 2016

Today I played a couple rounds with this deck at FNM. Although my record wasn't great 1-2, my deck did surprisingly well against top tier standard decks like RG Energy and RW Vehicle.
One thing that I did notice, however, is that on each of the games that I won, it was largely due to multiple fight spells in the beginning game and when I did win, I won quickly. To try to make the deck more consistent I have decided to test dropping two creatures, a Silverfur Partisan and a Foundry Inspector and in their place add two Rabid Bites.
My concern is that I will not have enough creatures to crew my vehicles. But, as shown through my games today, the primary target of hate is the vehicles themselves and so, I am confident that this set up will be okay. I will update again next week.

You have so many 2 drops, maybe take out rabid bite for prey upon?

I'll playtest it. I prefer the "deal damage to" over "fight," but at a lower mana cost it could be a worthy replacement. Thanks for the input.

I would consider adding more creatures instead of more vehicles. Should your opponent remove your creatures, then they may as well have removed a vehicle too since there isn't any creature to man it.

Okay, BeanieJ, I see what you are getting at and how it is potentially problematic. I would like to know what you would suggest adding/dropping. I have a few ideas. I could keep with the werewolf theme with more control with a Silverfur Partisan. Or I could go with something like Foundry Inspector to help the swarm of vehicles/Lupine Prototype. Then again I could go with something like Verdurous Gearhulk or an Eldrazi for a more solidified wincon. Or I could do any combination of those.

I really like the Silverfur Partisan idea! They try and eliminate a werewolf and end up creating a new one to take it's place. I've also seen a few other decks play Gideon. He gets around board wipes and acts as a 5/5 body to pilot a vehicle as well. Great value for a deck that revolves crewing vehicles.

I'll definitely try out Silverfur Partisan because I do target my wolves a lot so it would be a great way to control with tokens. But I also like Foundry Inspector a lot so I am going to play with this set up for a while and if I feel like my presence is lacking I may throw a few Silverfurs in there.

Tremblayk19,
I love it!

A couple quick thoughts:

Finally, you might want to stop by the All things Wolven thread sometime and post your deck. Please feel free to post it in large format if you want comments ... it makes it easier for the community to find the decks that are looking for help.

Draw well!

Tremblayk19,
I forgot to mention: Have you playtested with fewer Vehicles and more Creatures? If you've already found the sweet spot for this particular deck, cool! But I wanted to point out this article by Frank Karsten, who would recommend a very different ratio.

Wow! Thanks for your input and for the resources you've shared, clayperce!

I absolutely agree with your suggestions for the sideboard, I'm new to standard and I had previously misread Clip Wings as each player. It is almost objectively better than Plummet despite losing the opportunity for choice. I have also considered Natural State and had decided to go 4of with Appetite for the Unnatural because it also had life gain which could come in handy with all the burn out there, but I do agree that 2 of each would be for the best.

As for the Karsten article, I don't think I'm comfortable yet with making my vehicles each 2of to get to the 6:21 ratio that he recommends, yet after reading it I am sure that I will be cutting down and adding more creatures. I have known that in order for this deck to perform well that I would need to find the perfect ratio of vehicle:creature:fight spells.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your thoughts!

I am comforted by the fact that the winning deck at the scg open had a vehicle to creature ratio of 9:21, while Karsten argues with 9 vehicles there should be 26 creatures to back them.
