RHONAS THE INDOMITABLE MONO GREEN

This is an idea I toyed around with as I saw the green God Rhonas the Indomitable first spoiled. I think of all the gods of Amonkhet this one is the easiest to 'turn on'. As a 5/5 with deathtouch and indestructible Rhonas has the potential to become a nightmare for opponents. At first I thought about including red as a secondary color, but for now I am confident, that this deck works in mono green. The goal of the deck is to attack with Rhonas on turn 4, forcing the other player to trade defenders or take the 5 damage.

Creature Spells

With playing a playset of Rhonas chances are good enough of drawing one. Not sure if a tutor is necessary I would prefer to avoid it before taking in another color. I always need a 2nd creature on the battlefield with a minimum power of two so Rhonas can enable 'ferocity' (make it 4 power). Even better if the creatures in the two and three mana slots don't need to be made bigger: Here three creatures stand out: Prowling Serpopard, which is a incounterable 4 power creature for 3, also if this one stays on the board there's no more cancelling of your creature spells. Tireless Tracker needs only one land drop to become a 4/3 and gives card advantage. Sylvan Advocate grows in the late game automatically into a 4/5 for 2 mana, which is strong. Against Saheeli Rai combo, Heart of Kiran and Walking Ballista I offer Manglehorn. Probably one or two copies of Manglehorn could also go into the sideboard depending on the meta.

As it fits into every deck and is handy in almost any situation, a playset of Walking Ballistas can be considered. Duskwatch Recruiter would be another choice as it is boostable into a 4 power creature and allows to dig for creatures. On the other hand there's no one-drops yet. So maybe some Narnam Renegades would make the deck faster and provide blockers that thanks to deathtouch come in handy even in the late game against ground creatures.

Non-Creature Spells

Rhonas The Indomitable plays the pivotal role in this deck. A nice trick is to make him fight the defenders of the opposing players before attacking, making the way free for a devastating attack. Unfortunately Prey Upon is only sorcery speed and to my knowledge there's no other spell with a similar effect in instant speed in Amonkhet standard. It might however be justified to play the green Cartouche of Strength, an aura that grants a Prey Upon effect when entering the battlefield while giving the enchanted creature permanently +1/+1 and trample. A cartouche on Rhonas serves two purposes: Kill the most annoying blocker or attacker (unless it is another indestructible creature), than attack with trample (each blocker can absorb only 1 damage due to deathtouch). Secondly it can power up other available creatures to make Rhonas attack/block.

Rhonas's Monument is a consideration as it makes every green creature spell 1 cheaper and boost target creature with +2/+2 and trample until end of turn when you cast a creature spell. I aim for two copies in the main board. To increase card draw I also include two Lifecrafter's Bestiary. When playing 24 lands this leaves four spell slots open. These could be two Traverse the Ulvenwald for some additional ramp or a chance to grab the god. Another two might go to Heroic Intervention to protect the creatures.

Lands

As a monocolored deck the land base should be the easiest part: 24 lands, 20 of them Forests and 4 Blighted Woodland for additional ramp.

Sideboard

The sideboard will contain artifact and enchantment removal. Also something against flyers. And some copies of Heroic Intervention. This part is not worked out yet.

Some feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!
