Pyromancer's Goggles, while having a slightly expensive CMC, would be beautiful for this deck. Also, Fire Servant is really good, as you could potentially deal way more than 20 damage with a single spell.

Fire Servant - now that's a card I haven't seen for awhile. I'm sure that'll find a place in here somewhere. I'll try and fit a couple goggles in here too, because that would make a nice explosion even better. Thanks

Very nice concept, +1!

May I suggest to reduce the Fire Servants to 1 or maybe remove them completely? I know the effect is strong, but the cost is extremely high for modern and it looks a lot like a gain-more card to me. Maybe add Monastery Swiftspear or even the infamous Nivmagus Elemental instead, so you can make more proactive, early use of your nonpermanent spells. If your stuff gets countered, feed them to the elemental.

sergiodelrio Yeah, I have been thinking about taking out a couple just because of their cost. I actually had Nivmagus Elemental in here but took them out in favor of the Servant, but I am starting to miss them. I'll take out a couple of Servants and put the Elementals back in. I'll think about the Swiftspear, but if I put the Elementals back in I might not have room, because I'm worried I don't have enough actual burn

I hate to be a bearer of bad news, but your deck won't work the way you want it to. You see, casting a spell and copying a spell are two different things, and when a spell is copied, it goes on the stack without specifically being cast. I had the same idea myself, but I scrapped my deck when I realized how the rules work.

On the bright side, there might be others ways to get the deck to work without using spell copies. After all, blue is known for tapping and untapping things. As far as I can tell, Horseshoe Crab is probably your best bet since you can untap him for one blue mana, and you already have Cerulean Wisps. Nivmagus Elemental you might as keep as well since it doesn't care whether you cast spells and will gladly eat your copies all the same.

Thucydides I'm fairly certain that it works the way I described it. I think you're confused on how the stack works in this context. All the combo does is activate the ability in response to the Weird's ability...

Flow chart:

Bolt -> Weird's untap -> tap weird for copy -> bolt copy -> bolt copy resolves -> untap resolves -> tap weird for bolt copy number two -> second copy resolves -> original bolt resolves

Look up Blistercoil Weird on Gatherer, where it has official card rulings. The last ruling says "If you copy an instant or sorcery spell on the stack (using Nivix Guildmages second ability, for example), the copy isnt cast. Blistercoil Weirds ability wont trigger". You can also Google the question and find the same answer I gave you on the forums.

When the spell resolves, it is not being cast. You cast a spell when you pay mana for it and put it on the stack. In the case of making a copy, you are utilizes a creature or artifact ability to bypass the casting step and put a spell directly on the stack instead, which means anything that triggers on cast like blistercoil weird, guttersnipe and any prowess creatures won't benefit from the copies. Nivmagus Elemental and Fire Servant will still work normally however.

I'm not using the copies to untap Weird. I'm using the Weird's ability to untap the weird. I know copies don't trigger the ability. I'm going to try to explain it one more time:

Cast Lightning Bolt. Bolt goes on the stack, and then because you cast a spell, Weird's ability goes above it. Pay R and tap the weird for the copy ability. That resolves, and then a copy of Bolt goes above the untap ability. That resolves, and then the weird untaps and gets +1/+1. The original bolt is still on the stack and the weird is untapped. Pay R and tap the weird for a copy of bolt. That goes on the stack above the original bolt. The copy resolves, then the original resolves.

If you don't believe me then I can direct you to hamiam for an explanation as he was the creator and inspiration for this combo.

Sorry, I didn't realize we were talking past each other. I wasn't questioning your ability to get a second copy of the spell on the stack with the blistercoil weird, I just thought you were trying to trigger more stuff with the copied spells. Well, it wasn't a total waste, I can see now how it's at least possible to do something similar with the horseshoe crab, dual casting and manamorphose.

Oh ok, no hard feelings man... You can actually go infinite with Horseshoe Crab, Manamorphose and Dual Casting, although it doesn't do anything besides letting you get infinite Manamorphoses. I guess you could get a Goblin Electromancer to net a mana every time you go through it... That could be a thing ;)

Thucydides says... #11

That could work, although I think you could also use the Illusionist's Bracers to net extra copies of the spell and then feed those copies to the Nivmagus Elemental

Fire Servant is honestly bad. If it is doing anything, you have already won, and most decks have killed you at t5. Id run Izzet Charm As a way to dig for pieces, as well as protect your pieces
