Blink Engines

  • Ghostly Flicker + Archaeomancer + Venser = endless returning spells/permanents to hand, since the Archaeomancer returns the Ghostly Flicker used to flicker it and Venser. This results in an opponent unable to cast spells, eventually with no creatures, and eventually no land.

  • Archaeomancer + Baral's Expertise (one of it's targets being your Archaeomancer) = endless returning creatures to hand, since the Baral puts the Archaeomancer back out at the end for free, which returns the Baral you just used to your hand. This results in an opponent with no creatures, allowing eventual poking down with random wizards not part of the flicker engine.

  • Ghostly Flicker + 2 Archaeomancer (or 1 + 1 Naban) = endless returning of control cards. This is because one Archaeomancer returns the Ghostly Flicker, while the other is free to grab any used control card from your graveyard. This can often be enough to win with just endless control.

  • Ghostly Flicker + Archaeomancer = block-then-flicker defense while waiting for more. This also helps avoid most creature removal.

Battlefield Thaumaturge makes all these engines much cheaper. Ghostly Flicker goes from 3 to 1 and Baral's Expertise goes from 5 to 2.

I've won against strong Aggro decks with only 3 land on turn 12, as long as I have Thaumaturge out.

  • Additionally, once you get to 10 land, Archaeomancer and Displacement Wave work together by Displacement Waving for 6, then replaying the Archaeomancer.

Naban makes all these engines much more powerful.
