Land (4)

This deck is a variant of a build from one of my friends on Arena, Vicarian and his deck "Platinum Bridges".

Mine is a little heavier on the Esper side, and there are some other differences as well.

He chose not to out the combo directly in his posted build & I'll honor that too, though it might be a bit easier to tell on my build given some of my reasonings for the differences.

Notable Changes (from Vicarian's build)

  • 4x Ingenious Smith: These get rather large quite quickly if left unchecked, and since they are not a primary win condition themselves but rather help ensure those Indestructible artifact lands, they make for excellent early blockers against ramp decks. I also like them because of the confusion they sometimes cause with an opponent attempting to figure out the deck's win strategy. Often it looks as though it's attempting to exploit their +1/+1 counters for free using Artifact Lands, and I'm all for deception in a build.

  • 2x Grim Tutor: As with any combo deck requiring multiple very specific cards (not just similar effects), some Tutoring is in order. I like Black for this (although there are Tutors in other colors), because this is the only one which can reliably hit any card I need (including lands)

  • 2x Teferi, Hero of Dominaria: Passive Card Draw for helping find combo pieces faster, plus mana-free control if needed. I like his inclusion partially because he's such a common threat/annoyance that opponents will burn up Fractures or Jail effects (and the like) on him, potentially draining out the Artifact destruction/removal that I'm really more threatened by.

  • 2x Dovin's Veto: I included these specifically to ensure that I could counter Artifact hate going after the Book, or Enchantment hate going after Axis before my turn comes around (I usually hold off until I have 8 mana for Axis instead of 6, just to help guarantee its survival).

There are a couple of other Control changes, like my use of Boardwipes, but overall I think the theme is pretty similar.

Maybeboard:

  • 4x Mutavault: I'd like to not have to rely on any one particular card for the combo as much as possible, and these are the only other option to avoid using Majestic Metamorphosis. (Faceless Haven doesn't count since you can't spend non-snow mana to use it)
