Precon impressions —Aug. 31, 2017

I must be missing something.

I've played with the precon now and I feel so disappointed.

Dragons, Vampires, they completely overwhelm. The only reason Wizards didn't steamroll us as well was because the poor guy couldn't get his lands together. Arahbo? where is he? where is his power? This mighty primordial being.... The flyer in the box actually describes him as " clever, perceptive, assertive, poised and a vicious hunter". Perhaps in theory - in practice.. far far far from it.

Working on a new version here:

I'm so excited that i could find another cat tribal commander deck (mine is Cats With Assault Rifles) and I hope to get some card ideas from this deck, although my deck is "trying" to go more towards equipment for the cats.

hey bou. after checking first spoilers im some kind of disappointed of the upcoming deckstyle... but on the other hand im happy and glad that my kittens will stay unique in their direction. currently im only up for the new mirri cause... well, she's mirri. maybe i just take out arahbo for my kittens and keep the rest of the c17 kittens stock with another leader in front.

SerraMeya Its funny because before the spoilers came out and we had only seen Arahbo I had built a deck around him that was trying to force one on one combats and such, which admittedly was a strange direction for a token swarm kinda deck.

Then they spoiled Mirri, who basically screamed "I heard you made a deck for me". So while I can say that the overall cat deck strategy may not be as cohesive as say the vampire deck seems to be, it offers a few different ways to build it. You can make it aggro stompy with arahbo, You can focus more on equipment whith Nazahn, or aggro token swarm with Mirri.

The neat thing is that while it may not seem like it all these commanders work well in a deck together with Arahbo at the helm... Nazahn helps you make an incredibly powerful cat with equipment, then Arahbo pumps the crap out of it, and finally Mirri makes it so that your opponents can only block with one creature making combat super tough. I hope I live to see the day I hit all three at the same time lol.

@SerraMeya: Yeah like LittleBlueHero says, I agree that they made these new decks really wide with a lot of possible variations, and that means less synergy in the C17 decks, but more room to develop your own style.

Mirri and Nazahn allow for a way more aggressive exalted/voltron style, but Arahbo as he is, can be anything you want him to be, and now that we can compare him to the other legendaries.. he feels really lazy - king of the jungle / let everyone else do the dirty work - .. kinda.

The non-legendary cats they spoiled so far though are pure trash. Some are fun, like the lynx with the rat tokens.. but the ones I've seen so far are not interesting (to me) at all.

Alms Collector is going to be good. And white desperately needs any card draw it can muster.

Also if you are playing a dedicated cat desk Qasali Slingers is an auto include. Aura Shards is already a great card I will take this as a back up to it any day.

Stalking Leoning and Hungry lynx are actually the least exciting to me. The Leonin is too limited in its effectiveness and the lynx, while a cute mechanic could end up doing more harm than good if my opponents get rid of the lynx.

Im eagerly awaiting the decklists to hit today to see what kind of common and uncommon support the tribes got :) But in all honesty I doubt I will be keeping most of these as tribal decks once ive played a few games. So many other fun possibilities!

Yeah sorry that's what I meant, it's cute but that's all it is. I'm more excited about the green ramp they spoiled than the creatures haha, but I'll admit the Qasali Slingers is a nice card.

Alms collector is a bit troublesome.. I guess the problem I have with that is that it's a meta issue - my group doesn't often play big draw spells but more often incremental draw, 1 per creature, 1 per life. Howling Mine & Edric, Spymaster of Trest for example.

I guess when people play a big draw spell like Prime Speaker Zegana for +-7ish or Blue Sun's Zenith.. then yeah it would be a good card because it also shuts them down, hard.

I hear ya.

Cards like Hedron Archive are played heavily in my group. Lots of people playing green and using cards like Harmonize or Momentous Fall etc.

So yeah it would be a meta relevant card, in my experience though almost every deck ive played had at least a couple ways to restock their hand. I'd still be happy mainboarding it. At the least its a 3/4 flash blocker that adds to my army :)

More potential utility in a card like that than a card like Wild Leotau at the same cost.

Nice deck :) I just designed my own Arahbo deck: Arahbo's Killer Kittens

I would really recommend Mirror Entity: awesome anthem effect that counts as a cat

Does your commanders ability trigger if he's in the command zone or does he have to be on the field to be able to do it?

The second ability you pay mana for only works when Arahbo is on the field.
