Budget Cryptolith Rite Ramp Deck

Standard Mono-Green

nights1267

Here's a little background. About a year ago I decided to netdeck and buy this killer mono green deck. I never lost a game against my friends in a 1v1 game, the deck was that good! Recently with the rotation of standard many useful cards were rotated out ie : Heir of the Wilds, Whisperer of the Wilds, Temur Sabertooth, and Abzan Beast Master. Me, being a mono green player at heart decided to look up current mono green decks in standard right now. I found three different decks that were supported by the format, and fit a ramp style. They were some ramp CoCo decks, Hydras, and Eldrazi. I didn't want to build a Collected Company deck, because I don't hate my wallet. I didn't pick Hydras because I didn't seem to like its card draw too much. So this left me with Eldrazi. I did a couple playtest draws on TappedOut, and you can straight up drop an Ulamog on turn 4. Wait Ulamog, what Memelord Nasus I thought this was a budget deck. Yes it is, give me a second. I looked at the price, and I saw triple digits, but I need this deck. So with my cheapskate attitude I went over to TcgPlayer and looked up the eldrazi in the format. The original deck had Kozi, Ulamog, World Breaker, and Oath of Nissa. You can keep in Oath of Nissa if you want, but again I'm a cheapskate. I found 2 eldrazi that fit the mold for Ulamog and World Breaker. These are our 2 budget bombs. Desolation Twin is our Ulamog replacement, and Bane of Bala Ged is our World Breaker replacement. When it came to Kozilek I could not find a suitable replacement to be honest. The closest to a 10 drop I could get in budget was Breaker of Armies. This card is not as good as Kozilek, but it can help out our other bombs by being a type of rouge's passage for us. If you have 10 bucks throw in Kozilek because his counter ability as well as his draw engine are phenomenal. As an alternative to Oath of Nissa, I chose Seek the Wilds. Seek the Wilds is just Oath of Nissa plus one colorless and plus one card draw. Everything else on these 2 cards do not matter in this deck, because we don't have planeswalkers. Other than that everything stayed the same and I bought it for about 30 bucks, which is a killer deal if you ask me. When looking at the replacement cards Desolation Twin, in my opinion is better than ulamog. Hear me out on this. Desolation Twin spawns 2 10/10 eldrazi tokens when uncountered, and one if countered. Triggers go on the stack first so when he is cast from you hand you have at least one of these bombs. The same goes for Bane. Bane is a killer card with his repeatable ulamog trigger. Again this can go off every turn it is alive and attacks, so in comparison to world breaker I find it to be twice as useful even though you can't choose the permanant. The only advantage world breaker brings is regeneration, which is useful. If I had more money I would still play Bane over World Breaker.

Tips and TricksYour best starting hand will have a two one drops, one cryptolith, one bomb and some land. As long as you have this hand, it is incredibly easy to win.

When you have Call of the Scions and Scion Summoner in you hand go by this. Have Cryptolith= Call Don't have Crypto=Scion. With your crypto you can gain 4 mana off of two tokens, while the Scion will give you 3. Without the Crypto you choose between 2 1/1's and 1 1/1 and 2/2. Its just practical

If you don't have Cryptolith out or in your hand, be careful when using Seek the Wilds. Once I milled 3 in one go, and once I milled right to a crypto. It can be a coin toss.

Don't be afraid to chump with Blisterpod, thats what he's there for. Get you some mana honey.

Best one drop to cast at beginning of the game is Jaddi Offshoot, because of his land fall.

Know when to sacrifice Sanctum of Ugin, and when not to sac it. If you have hella bombs in your hand keep it there. Just cast a Desolation Twin and got 6 Blisterpods, thrown that thing out

Use that Rogue's Passage, I didn't put that in there to look pretty.

When you got cryptolith out, tap your token before you sac it. This is how you get a ten drop on turn 4.

OK so I'm way to lazy to do the sideboard, I would love some suggetions. Put a sideboard in the comments with reasons why and I'll credit you. Thanks for reading if you did this took me a while to write
