Elspeth Resplendent

Legendary Planeswalker — Elspeth

+1: Choose up to one target creature. Put a +1/+1 counter and a counter from among flying, first strike, lifelink, or vigilance on it.

-3: Look at the top seven cards of your library. You may put a permanent card with mana value 3 or less from among them onto the battlefield with a shield counter on it. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

-7: Create five 3/3 white Angel creature tokens with flying.

CamraMaan on Interaction between Agrus Kos, Eternal …

When I +1 Elspeth Resplendent targeting Agrus Kos, Eternal Soldier and activate Agrus, do all my creatures have to get the same kind of ability counter, or do I get to pick one of the options for each of them? My assumption is that I get to choose, but I'm far from positive about it, and I can see this being an argument at my local table. Like I know that typically whatever happens to Agrus Kos happens to each creature, but the "or" option makes it less clear that it MUST be the same for each. Thanks in advance!

My meta just naturally plays near 0 tutors... It is beautiful & glorious. In my meta it leads to alot more midrange impact moves, without the temptation to just move straight to the endgame.

I do enjoy limited "tutors" & they have to be able to do something else for me Urza's Sylex is an example of one where I use the tutor function but the primary purpose is boardwiping. That same deck uses Niko9's aforementioned Elspeth Resplendent - limited tutor with another effect.

I keep pulling them & seeing better gameplay consistency, particularly the midgame back-&-forth stuff.

I find myself pulling even my limited tutors & replacing them with lands. I am taking Enlightened Tutor out of my Naya enchantress deck, for example, because most the targets are midrangy & the tutor doesn't really do anything else.

So, I guess I am saying; that in my case removing the non-restricted tutors has just lead to more midrange-focused games. I don't even feel that the power level is all that impacted, just gameplay pattern.

Good point, how about, for the sake of argument, anything that searchs the entire deck for a nonland, nonspecific card. Things like Elspeth Resplendent don't one card bust randomness, and things like Elspeth, Undaunted Hero are made for very specific archetype decks that function around this effect, rather than a generic deck that uses tutors simply to thin the deck, whether that be to force combos or to have one card be ubiquitous interaction because it can search any interaction.

And I guess what I meant to say in the post was, what would the format look like? I don't mean to be overly critical of tutors (sorry!), more to explore what the format would look like in their absence.

Zugzou on Perrie, The Chopper

A few more that I've found:

Vanish into Memory - This is a flicker card that draws you a new hand. Use it after Perrie made something big so you draw 6+ cards and then discard 3 or fewer when it comes back in.

Parallax Wave - Flicker, removal, protection, combo engine, value engine, this card is bananas and criminally underplayed. Not to mention it comes with fade counters.

Elspeth Resplendent - Honestly a pretty standard walker, not amazing, but it potentially brings 7 types of counters to your board.

Vivien, Monsters' Advocate - Unlike the last one, this is an EDH playable walker, fits the theme.

Nissa, Voice of Zendikar - Three mana walkers are stupid

Endless Detour - Amazing removal that can only be run in these colors.

Glen Elendra Archmage - Most of the persist and undying creatures don't seem that good for this deck, this one seems like the best by a pretty wide margin.

Luminous Broodmoth - Flying counters and a powerful interaction with flicker effects.

Lion Sash - White Scavenging Ooze

Vanquish the Horde - Farewell - Day of Judgment - board wipes

Nice deck, I've been messing around with a couple GW versions of this concept, one more aggro and one that's more ramp-focused with more top-end threats.

I also considered building in some landfall to synergize with Kodama, but ultimately decided against it because the landfall pieces were a little too reliant on that one card to be effective. I feel like you might have the same problem here, with Emergent Sequence and Environmental Sciences being your only other mini-enablers to get one land apiece. With only a handful of cards to fetch lands and only 22 lands, there could be a good chunk of games where the landfall cards don't do much.

Therefore I might recommend moving away from the landfall strategy and using those slots for more ramp and/or big threats that synergize well with counters. Some ideas:

A couple other cheap cards that you might consider are Ollenbock Escort to protect creatures you've invested a lot of counters into and enable you to attack aggressively, and Ranger Class which is obviously just a good card that fits your strat and gives you some extra gas if they game goes too long. Orochi Merge-Keeper is another interesting one but for 3 colors I like Emergent Sequence and Gala Greeters better.

Anybody remember how, when The Forgotten Realms came out, I made numerous posts about how I was pulling insane volumes of Mythics? Like, no lie, I pulled FIVE Tiamat. Two regular, two extended and a foil extended. I was pulling 3 - 5 mythics PER BUNDLE.

Well. It would seem New Capenna is the same. I've pulled now THREE Luxior, Giada's Gift, Ob Nixilis, Elspeth, I pulled another Elspeth from The List, a Vivian from The List, the Dragon Demon, and more.

After work today I bought one of those fancy Bundles and a Collectors pack with some birthday money from Monday ^-^

Pulled one of the fancy frames of Elspeth Resplendent, a full art Luxior, Giada's Gift, a Halo Fountain and an Angel of Suffering.

Four mythics, in what like 9 packs? Yup.

Make a mythic. Don't care what it is, just has to be a mythic.
