Geez, I don't even know. I don't think Skyjek is too good outside of a dedicated Boros build (where he's a terror), but there's nothing else in this pack. Wow.

Um...Hate out the Madcap Skills I guess? I can definitely be persuaded otherwise, though I don't know how anything here merits argument.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. I suppose it's not outside the realm of possibility that red could be our splash color instead of white, depending on whether or not we see something great for it in pack 3. We have Mugging already.

I'm torn between Madcap Skills, Armored Transport, and Last Thoughts. Not the best pack for us.

February 27, 2013 3:07 a.m.

vic says... #3

If we had picked that last Prophetic Prism we saw, I might be saying Daring Skyjek. As it is, I'm not confident enough in our fixing to take it.

February 27, 2013 3:09 a.m.

Siggy23 says... #4

Of course we need Lazav, Dimir Mastermind; hes mythic rare! that means he must be good . . .

honestly though . . . we should probably go either Last Thoughts for the card advantage or Madcap Skills for the hate draft . . . its kinda a toss up

I would be good with keeping that Madcap Skills out of a Boros or Gruul players hands but I also think that the Daring Skyjek is a good evolve trigger for our evolve creatures. I would be happy either way. Although if we take the Skyjek, we need to start prioritizing mana fixing. We look to be getting a fair number of white cards and any help we can get in casting them should be one of our priorities. Guys, this means if we find another Prism in a pack with another Shark we need to let the Shark go and take the Prism.

February 27, 2013 3:25 a.m.

CyRRdaR says... #6

I would hatepick the Madcap Skills here, and depending on the 3rd pack, maybe we could even play it with some Gruul gates. The rest is pretty much crap for our deck anyway.

RussischerZar says... #7

We already have one Last Thoughts and it's always nice to have some consistency in limited, right? Although Madcap Skills can be pretty dangerous if you don't have enough removal. I've gotten the crap beaten out of it in last week's FNM.

February 27, 2013 5:09 a.m.

atreyujames says... #8

last thoughts isn't good enough to need consistency =P

saying that, I'd hate draft the Madcap Skills

February 27, 2013 5:40 a.m.

mossflower says... #9

Yeah.. I guess we hate draft the Madcap Skills...

February 27, 2013 5:57 a.m.

dcarpntr says... #10

If this was a draft I was doing in real life, I'd take the Lazav, Dimir Mastermind and build myself a new EDH deck.

Since it's not, I should probably pick the best card to take in this situation. That would be hate drafting Madcap Skills.

February 27, 2013 7:41 a.m.

apt142 says... #11

Madcap Skills is very nice. I'm surprised it made it this far honestly.

I'm not a fan of hate drafting because I think it makes our deck weaker for it. That said there isn't a whole lot here for us. I'd suggest either the Daring Skyjek which we might be able to use or the Madcap Skills.

February 27, 2013 7:51 a.m.

dorminjake says... #12

I'd say Madcap Skills for sure. None of these picks are worthy of making the final deck list (as it currently stands -- things could change), so we should take out the biggest threat instead.

Hating Madcap Skills

February 27, 2013 7:56 a.m.

I have to say that Madcap Skills is nuts, hate draft that sucker.

Goody says... #16

dcarpntr, I'm sure most of us would pick him if it was real life haha, I know I would

Even if Lazav isn't an amazing card, he's still a really good Dimir card. For it to have gone this far without getting picked shows us that nobody besides maybe Lee is drafting primarily Dimir. I guess it's posssible for someone to be splashing into Dimir from orzhov, but would they really take something else over this bomb?

I'd be tempted to hate draft Lazav, Dimir Mastermind over the Madcap Skills since a hexproof clone that clones anything that gets killed, milled or countered is REALLY scary.

February 27, 2013 9:15 a.m.

SwiftDeath says... #17

agree with all Madcap Skills shall be hate drafted and we might be able to splash it later too.

February 27, 2013 9:17 a.m.

apt142 says... #18

Out of curiousity, is this a virtual draft or are there really cards being tossed around behind the scenes here?

February 27, 2013 9:25 a.m.

Spker says... #19

Daring Skyjek, not much for this pack

February 27, 2013 9:30 a.m.

Hate Madcap Skills.

Let someone else hate the mythic. Next couple packs should have something for us.

February 27, 2013 9:48 a.m.

cartwheelnurd says... #21

hate out the Madcap Skills But if we lose to lasav it will suck really hard.

February 27, 2013 10:14 a.m.

Goody says... #22

Lee is definitely not going boris, he passed us the Frontline Medic in pack 1. He could very well be taking up all the dimir cards that get passed to him seeing as though nobody else wanted the Lazav, Dimir Mastermind. It would also explain why we didn't see a single Dimir Charm in pack 1.

My vote is to take the Lazav and let Lee hate the madcap, we dont want the mythic in his hands.

February 27, 2013 10:31 a.m.

Never hate draft unless there is NO other card you can take.

The pick here is Daring Skyjek if we can get a little better fixing for it. Bant aggro won't be expected by anyone, but it will be potent with our card pool. The Skyjek also triggers evolve on our little guys, which is important.

Not to mention that we already have some Battalion medics, so we might as well get some more use off the triggers.

And, worst-case scenario, Daring Skyjek trades up almost every time. 3 power is nothing to scoff at.

February 27, 2013 10:51 a.m.

apt142 says... #24

I'm voting Daring Skyjek.

February 27, 2013 10:55 a.m.

exarkun809 says... #25

Boros was so open :P I'm still bitter!

No one is playing Dimir if a 3/3 hexproof with a rad ability for 4 is still out there.

I think we take the Daring Skyjek. He's good for an evolve trigger and we have enough small creatures that we could find battalion triggering. We've got 2x Frontline Medics... we're most likely bant. We have a creature that fixes and a prism. Two or three fixing cards and we'll be fine, no need to freak out.

February 27, 2013 11:26 a.m.

exarkun809 says... #26

In fact, the more you look at our deck, the more we HAVE to take Daring Skyjek. Look at our curve! Batallion will trigger and he'll evolve our guys every time. If fixing is the only reason not to take it... take it and look for fixing!

February 27, 2013 11:28 a.m.

sewellius says... #27

I'm with exarkun809 on this one, Daring Skyjek is getting my vote as it is still a 2 drop with a possible evasion, and great power for our existing Evolve creatures. We're starting to pick up a lot of flying creatures here and I think that's a strength we should capitalize on.

February 27, 2013 11:42 a.m.

keilahmartin says... #28

Idunno about skyjeck. If we want to use him, we need to semi-reliably find white mana by t2-4 or he's a wasted card...

I'm in favor of hating Madcap Skills

February 27, 2013 11:48 a.m.

cartwheelnurd says... #29

change vote to Daring Skyjek. Madcap skills enables 2 for 1s with our Simic Charm.

February 27, 2013 12:58 p.m.

MagnorCriol says... #30

I've seen enough good reasoning to be persuaded to change my vote.

-1 Madcap Skills+1 Daring Skyjek

It's not something I think we're likely to want to run - but depending on how picks go, we might indeed find ourselves in position to run it. Skills can be strong but it doesn't particularly scare me, so hating it out isn't too important; so I'll take a card that might have use for us rather than the card that might scare us.

February 27, 2013 1:06 p.m.

mossflower says... #31

I've been convinced as well; we could want to end up running the skyjek, so I'll change my vote to that.

Minus one Madcap Skills. Plus one Daring Skyjek.

February 27, 2013 1:41 p.m.

Daring Skyjek red white was so open this draft its crazy.... we see how far open when we started passing pack 2. any how we have such solid white cards i have to believe we will be splashing some. Might as well get a 3/1 to go w/ it since he could easily be a flyer and will help other dudes evolve. Anyone notice we are getting nothing for blue green atm?

February 27, 2013 2:10 p.m.

Goody says... #33

I still think Lee will pick up that Lazav, Dimir Mastermind and we'll regret it.

But if we get the Daring Skyjek, that's the second best pick.

February 27, 2013 2:22 p.m.

Lee can take Lazav all day if he wants it. What's he going to copy of ours that scares us? He's way better as Lazav than he is as anything in our deck, so there's no worries.

Lazav is way better in a big format like EDH where it's likely that fatties will be hitting graves.

Daring Skyjek

February 27, 2013 3:06 p.m.

Yup, I think I was too hasty hating on Madcap. I think it was during one of the older DDD series that one of our members did a breakdown on hate drafting. The bottom line was that the chances of seeing the hated card are so low, it's not worth doing.

I'll switch to Daring Skyjek.

February 27, 2013 3:16 p.m.

TikiShades says... #38

We don't need to hatedraft Madcap Skills. It's a bomb. It'd be worth the splash if Daring Skyjek wasn't here. My vote is for him.

February 27, 2013 3:38 p.m.

KrazyCaley says... #39

@apt142 - No real cards involved.

Daring Skyjek comes from behind due to many persuaded Madcap Skills voters.

February 27, 2013 3:45 p.m.

apt142 says... #40

Thanks for clarifying KrazyCaley. The distinction does make a difference on drafting habits, I think.

February 27, 2013 4:01 p.m.

KrazyCaley says... #41

@apt142 Indeed. The idea here was to educate re: EFFECTIVE drafting though, so it seemed like a good idea not to tempt people to money draft. Plus, no real cards = much less expensive.

February 27, 2013 4:03 p.m.

apt142 says... #42

It certainly is doing that. And I'd like to thank you and the other 7 drafters for this fun and educational experience!
