Best fit for Polukranos
Standard forum

I want to build a deck with Polukranos, World Eater and have looked at many decklists to try and figure out what to build. I think the one I liked the best a Jund build with Reaper of the Wilds . What do you guys think? Can a deck like that be good in standard? I really want to build a competitive deck because I've never been really competitive, just more casual and I'm looking to make the jump!
Thanks for all the help!!!

I have him as a 2-of in my GW deck, but I agree GR or Jund would probably be the best place for him:

@zandl Well that's a bit of an overstatement. He can fit in a lot of decks, I run him as a two-of in my Bant deck. He could easily go into a RG ramp strategy with Nykthos, where you can monsterize him for a billion, similar to what Makahito Mahara was running at Pro Tour Theros. Any green midrange strategy could use him if they wanted.

I suppose it was a bit of a generalization.
Still, though, he's best in Devotion decks with access to Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx IMHO. If you want to kill anything bigger than an x/2 or x/3, you'll probably need the mana boost.

I think a 5/5 for 4 CMC that has the potential to get bigger at instant speed and even kill something is good in a lot of decks looking for a beatstick.
With Nykthos in RG or Mono-green he just gets ridiculous

If you want to try something else you could try running him in a Gu devotion deck. Simic has an extra Voyaging Satyr in Kiora's Follower to abuse Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
Not entirely sure if it will keep up with Gr or Jund monsters though. Although it kinda shines versus other midrange decks cause it just goes bigger.

I played him in a B/G midrange deck. Used ramp and Sylvan Caryatid for mana fixing and ran them with Desecration Demon and Reaper of the Wilds . I also had plenty of versatile removal with access to Abrupt Decay , Putrefy , Hero's Downfall , and Golgari Charm . Because of the double mana cost of my big creatures and the downfall it took some tinkering with my other spells to get it to run smoothly without mana issues being a big concern but the deck was nice. Everything I played was a threat and I could answer anything my opponents played.

An argument could me made for Polukranos in almost any deck that runs Green. While he is obviously at his most nutty in any Nykthos deck, his efficiently-costed body and out-of-color removal from his Monstrous ability make him viable in a wide range of strategies.

running a similar deck with abenz419. Polukranos, World Eater + Desecration Demon + Reaper of the Wilds + Master of the Feast . the rest would be for spot removal. and Vraska the Unseen !

Are those G/B midrange decks anything like Rock decks? That has been my favorite archetype lately, I haven't seen anything in standard that looked like one though (other than B/G devotion)

Use monogreen devotion with him and use Bow of Nylea along with him. Declare him as an attacker and give him deathtouch due to the bow's static ability. Then monstrous him enough to deal 1 damage to each creature your opponent has and watch him/her squirm as you just 2, 3, or even 4 for 1'd him :)

Jund Monsters and GR Monsters are really the only place for him right now.
