If you need a good merfolk list, I advise you to follow Nikachu on youtube, he is basically one of the most (if not the most) experienced Merfolk player in the world. :)
@Ohthenoises do you have a list? That sounds spicy!

AtomicEmpire also rothgar13 is one of the best merfolk players around.
April 6, 2017 8 p.m.
Yea, rothgar13 and Nikachu are the backbones of the Merfolk community. Roth controls the MTG Salvation Merfolk thread and wrote it's primer, as well as having written a primer for ModernNexus. Nikachu got 2nd at a recent GP with Merfolk (lost to Josh Utter-Leyton's Death Shadow Jund), and is basically known as the Merfolk guy.
Of note, they both play the deck a little differently. If I remember correctly, Nikachu is a lot more passive. But either way, they're both great, and you should go to one of them if you want fish advice :D

Thanks for the plug, Ashockfan and ToolmasterOfBrainerd. :)
I am indeed the resident Merfolk enthusiast. If you're looking for a list, here's my current version, which I use to grind on MTGO:

elpokitolama i don't but you could look up a U/W titan deck and see what it would take to configure it for Balance as your boardwipe

Is it just me or is Soul-Scar Mage very good?
for a 1/2 prowess with whenever noncombat damage is dealt to a creature u don't control give that creature that many -1/-1 counters instead.
Seems very strong. Idk about swiftspear replacement or anything but it makes combat math sooooo messy. Block with it, before damage bolt ur goyf, prowess trigger, eat the goyf for a bolt.
Might be good in UR delver variants or mono red aggro. Maybe burn sideboard material? Seems nice with forked bolts and electrolyzes

I see it spiking since you can use it to cast the suspend spells on the turn it enters.

Other options are the obvious ancestral and Wheel of Fate I suppose Living End could also make use of it

Does anyone here know a bit about RUG Scapeshift? DO you know anyone you could reference me to? Thanks!
April 7, 2017 9:39 a.m.
GeminiSpartanX says... #15
A good buddy of mine plays Bring to Light Scapeshift as his main Modern deck. It's quite powerful since you normally have mana up for counterspells when you try to resolve a scapeshift/BtL. I could ask him for his list if you're interested AtomicEmpire. It's not straight RUG but seems pretty dece.

I think for as foretold the best shell is UW Titan. If you run the blooms that's possibly a T4 Titan easily (suspended or not) preceded by a restore balance to wipe the field.
Titan getting back Bloom or as foretold itself is very useful in matches that have hate or if you have to discard them to balance.

TheAlexGnan ... they have no cmc. They literally have no casting cost, thus no cmc. Or rather: It's always 0.

Hey guys- Wondering if anyone knows a fair bit about Esper Control or knows someone they could reference me to? Thanks!

tlhunter07 says... #25
Also, is Esper Control gonna be better than Jeskai Draw-Go?
April 10, 2017 10:44 a.m.
Definitely better. Bolt is as bad as I can ever remember it being as a removal spell. I discussed this in an article I wrote last week.

tlhunter07 says... #27
Would you play Grixis, Jeskai or Esper regardless of price? I think that the answer to that question is probably Grixis, but Esper has a cheap-ass manabase. Jeskai is what I have built besides Scalding Tarn, but Esper seems like a better choice to me. Thoughts?

EpicFreddi says... #28
At the moment I'd play esper because Path/Condemn>Bolt, plus you can play stuff like Gideon and Elspeth.

Honestly, I'm such a huge fan of 3c Control that I can't step away from it. Also the problem of me having no money for AV in UW Control.
April 11, 2017 7:26 a.m.
@AtomicEmpire: I'm actually going to go off-script from the options presented and agree with TheAlexGnan - straight seemed best in my testing. If that's off the table, I would do Esper. It's durdly but it works.

I need an idea of what to play for Modern tonight. The only stipulations are that it can't have Cryptic Commands, tron lands or Liliana of the Veils since I don't have any. What would you all pick given those restrictions?
April 11, 2017 10:15 a.m. Edited.
tlhunter07 says... #36
Both of my draw-go builds (Esper and Jeskai) have had very little and respectively, and it seemed like more of a splash on Control for Esper Charm and more removal for Esper and burn for Jeskai. So yeah, I guess is the base on both of those. I'll give it a try! Thanks.

I think that Modern is also about playing a deck you like, and I honestly like playing Jeskai Draw-Go.

I like straight control the most. I think there's an advantage to having a less-painful/constricted manabase. Being able to play ghost quarters and other non-duals with little sacrifice is valuable now days when every slot counts for something.
Also, Gideon Jura and Elspeth are amazingly fun cards to play with.

I also just love the Jeskai colors. I may eventually migrate to UW or Esper, but for now Jeskai is my home.

Torrential Gearhulk is also a card for control - it's just that Kolaghan's Command and other removal spells give the opponent such a mana advantage there. Unless you're flashing back a Cryptic Command, you will almost always be down 2-3 mana when somebody uses a kill-spell on your Gearhulk.
April 11, 2017 1:40 p.m.
Suit yourself. I think Jeskai Draw-Go's positioning is bad, though, so I hope you don't run into much Burn, Eldrazi, or Shadow.

GeminiSpartanX How did Zoo work out? And did you revolt Zoo or Kirdape?
April 12, 2017 6:19 a.m.
GeminiSpartanX says... #49
EpicFreddi- I tried something a little different and went with a mono-green revolt stompy list I've been meaning to try out here: Revolt Stompy. I technically went 2-2, but going into round 4 I was 1-2 and got paired up against a guy I lent my infect deck to who was 2-1. We played it out and I beat him in 2 games, but I conceded the match to him since I was out of prize contention anyway. He ended up getting 3rd and split the store credit with me since he was borrowing my deck, so it all worked out in the end. I lost against a stock naya revolt zoo round 1, lost against elves round 2, won against bird-brains round 3 and technically beat infect round 4. Since it was my first time playing the deck in it's current configuration I think I could have made some better mulligan choices, but combo seems like a hard matchup in general. I think in the future I'll just stick with revolt zoo since it seems pretty nutty, even though the creatures in the green deck outclassed my zoo opponent's creatures easily, the burn just gets you there.
